Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff has suffered a blow to her hopes of staving off impeachment proceedings, after a committee voted they should go ahead.
The 65-member congressional committee voted 38 to 27 to recommend impeachment over claims she manipulated government accounts to hide a growing deficit.
All eyes will now be on a full vote in the lower house on 17 or 18 April.
The issue has divided Brazil, with police preparing for mass protests in the capital, Brasilia.
The vote took place amid chaotic scenes with supporters and opponents of President Rousseff shouting slogans and waving placards.
I honestly have no idea why I read that as David Hasselhoff
So from what i've heard of this lady she is a bit "controversial". If this impeachment goes through, what does this mean for Brazil?
Not surprised. Best argument in favour of her is "the others did it too". Yeah, how about we set the precedent already?

There are two sides of the coin, one believes that "this kills democracy because Dilma 'dindu nuffin'", and the other believes that this sets a precedent that the myth of "everything always ends in Pizza" (which means that nothing happens) is false.

What laws? Is it illegal for people to move to impeach elected leaders? Sounds like a good law to be broken to be frank.
Impeachment being a thing just kinda solidifies that idea that voters are idiots and will put an idiot in power if they damn well please and there's gotta be some sort of backup plan in case the elected official goes full retard. Not saying that's the Brazil situation cause that one's all sorts of fucked.

The president can't be impeached willy nilly. S/he has to commit a crime. Dilma is being accused of crimes against the federal appropriation bill. Of course there are people denying she commited those crimes.
I find it hilarious these accusations saying that the impeachment is illegal when Dilma's party asked for the impeachment of every other president we had since the new Constitution in 1988.
