According to Gloucester County Online, the police pup had suffered from Cushings Disease and was in enough pain to be put down. They reported that over $13,000 had been raised for the dog's surgeries and care in November, but a large mass grew on his liver and he could no longer eat. The deputies made the call to put him down. But not without a final farewell.

Judge’s work aided in the arrest of 152 people, the seizure of three vehicles, the removal of three handguns from the streets, drug seizures, and the confiscation of more than $47,000 in cash, said police. Man that training sleeve and his face really gets to me :(
That is adorable.
Aw man, as someone who wants to work as a Dog Handler this really touches me. :(
Hit me right in the feels.
Cushings Disease sucks. My family's dog Loki, who had been my best friend while I was home schooled had to be put down last summer because of it.
That's one thing I find so painful about dogs. My family has had to put down two dogs while I still lived with them, and both times they always looked so well and healthy prior to being euthanized. That really made me sad.
My family has had two golden retrievers, the first of which we put down back in early 2014. It's hard to keep those emotions buried when you're putting down what has become your family, especially a dog that has been with you your whole life. The first time I cried in years after the vets left us alone to get what they need to euthanize. This dog went out with caring comrades and did good for his community. R.I.P
R.I.P
Rest well old boy.
But...he looks so happy. :C
But...he looks so happy. :C
dogs are always happy when they are with people they like
dogs are always happy when they are with people they like
Too damn true, we lost our two dogs two years ago (a few months apart), both to cancer but of different organs, and even though they were both in pain, they would always thump their tails happily when with us and getting stroked/attention.
Chew on people's arms in heaven. RIP.
i actually cried a little bit
The dog provided a noble and fufilling service, was given the best options available for treatment and had his life end in a calm and painless manner. As the owner of two dogs it's really sad when they are struck with illness, but knowing that they're going out not suffering is the best thing in the situation given.
