The news came after the centrist, pro-EU candidate was regarded as having come out on top in the final TV debate ahead of Sunday's run-off vote. His far-right adversary, Marine Le Pen, referred to the claims in the debate. He replied: "That is defamation." On Thursday, an aide to Mr Macron told AFP news agency: "We will not hesitate to prosecute for defamation anyone who repeats this false information." The prosecutors' investigation sends a clear message that anyone repeating the allegation can expect to be taken to court, the BBC's Hugh Schofield in Paris says. The allegations about a secret bank account spread online on right-wing websites and on social media. Speaking on French radio on Thursday, Mr Macron called the allegations "fake news and lies" and said some of the sites spreading them were "linked to Russian interests". His supporters say some of the sites have supported US President Donald Trump.

Le Pen: "I hope we won't find out that you have an offshore account in the Bahamas. I hope so..." Macron: "No, Madame Le Pen, because that's defamation." Le Pen: "No, no, I said 'I hope'." Macron: "But what about you? We all know about your undervalued assets and we all know that you're currently under legal action - that's not my situation, that's yours." He was referring to alleged fraudulent payments from the European Parliament to the FN's party staff. The FN denies allegations that it took payments for staff who were not really working for MEPs, and Ms Le Pen says she is the victim of a politically-motivated vendetta.
4chan's cancerous /pol/ is at it again, France 2 showed screen captures of a thread with those dumb allegations. Why the hell would he sign an offshore account on his own name ? :v: Oh and that silly lady is avoiding those very claims now that they've been debunked, way to blatantly lie in front of millions of people to discredit your opponent.
The lawsuit is also just a political play though, not like a judge will rule on a high-profile defamation within the next week or whenever the French vote again
Regardless, it's a good thing he wants to address in general the plague that are fake news. Some people around me got easily misinformed by trusting word of mouth, which those news help spread.
Pardon my french but LOCK HER UP!
The_Donald is now jumping for Joy, in which they Triggered what they called a "Basket of Deplorables" Remark from Macron, Apparently Macron Called Le Penn's voters "Hateful Cowards" So not only the bahamas may be a lie, but they think Le Penn is doing 3D Chess.

He actually said he "respects" her voter base. That they "deserve better than someone who manipulates their anger". The understanding of the French language of the people you're citing is really fucked.
WOW! Thank you for saying that.
You're welcome. Looks like they don't even put any effort in their trolling.
You're welcome. Looks like they don't even put any effort in their trolling.
Hateful degenerate right-wingers completely failing to understand what anybody is saying is par for the course for the /pol/ conglomerate.
Hateful degenerate right-wingers completely failing to understand what anybody is saying is par for the course for the /pol/ conglomerate.
And the fact that up to 40% of our country is ready to let this shit slide is absolutely revulsing. I don't get how anyone can give their support to what she stands for: incompetence, hatred, lies, denying the past, among many, many other things.

I don't get how anyone can give their support to what she stands for: incompetence, hatred, lies, denying the past, among many, many other things.
Just like Trump voters and Brexit supporters, most people who vote for Le Pen come from remote, rural and completely deserted places and have absolutely no idea how the country works. Hell some of them probably never encountered a muslim or black person in their lives so when someone on TV tell them they're evil, they blindly believe it. It's weird seeing all those farmers supporting Le Pen. If she wins and have France leave EU, and therefore the single market, they'll definitely suffer from it.
France, please don't repeat the same mistake we did. edit: despite the fact my flag dog says Canada for some reason.
In Québec, while anglophone media mostly ignores the French election unless results come along, francophone media is constantly going bonkers because we've been affected by two significant polarizing elections (with our neighbour to the south, and our relative in Europe), hopefully this one will end in the favor of the lesser evil. I personally find Macron rather tame except for his weird plan to reduce France's nuclear energy sector by 50% or so, though.
They've Doubled Down.
/pol/tards who think their bullshit will change anything are delusional. Even if it were true, it doesn't make Macron worse than Le Pen who literally stole taxpayer money and refuses to get tried for it.

Honestly, both are scumbags.
One steals taxpayer dollars, while the other is outright evading. Honestly, both are scumbags.
That's assuming the "leaks" have any truth to them in the first place. Really doubt Macron would be dumb enough to register an account using his actual name, especially since he knows how this sort of stuff works, having been a banker and all. [editline]5th May 2017[/editline] That plus the fact MLP weaseled out of her original accusation, saying she was "just asking a question". She just wants to spread misinformation to help her campaign, that's been her MO since the start.
