I've been seriously depressed over my body for as long as I can remember. I currently weigh ~88 kg and I'm 188 cm tall. That weight is mostly fat which I want to transform into muscles. My goal is not to build lots of muscles like those bodybuilders do, but rather trim down the fat and get some marked muscles. My eating habit is a disaster. I usually only eat when I become really hungry. This usually means that I eat a lot of food at random times throughout the day, as well as dinner. What are some tips to improve this? Right now I hit the gym twice a week. I would do it more often, but my friend who I work out with does it only twice and I don't want to to go alone. It would be great to overcome that fear of going alone. If I do, how often should I go to the gym? Every day? I'm not really in any sort of activity when I'm home. What are some things I could do when I'm home and have nothing to do? Keep in mind that I have a lot of free time on my hands as well since I don't really have that many friends. My day is usually rather empty as well so it would be appreciated if someone could help me out to create some sort of daily plan!
Let's start by knocking off some of your preconceptions about exercise, lifestyle, gym, etcetera.
I've been seriously depressed over my body for as long as I can remember. Fat is caused by the adipose cells in your body, and cannot be converted into muscle. Treat both as completely separate entities that are influenced by your diet and your physical regime. Additionally, you will not suddenly become a 200 lbs bodybuilder simply because you start lifting weights for a few months; I don't know why everyone has that misconception, but the truth is you will see marked progress on your own body, not become a bloated monster overnight.
My eating habit is a disaster. [B]I usually only eat when I become really hungry.
While I'm not the expert on this, it is in my knowledge that the times you eat don't really affect your weight gain, only the contents and size of your meals. If you want to have a regular meal schedule, then you also need to schedule your own daily routine around that. Make sure you dont eat before you sleep so that you'll feel hungry enough for breakfast, etc etc.
Right now I hit the gym twice a week. A lot of people are afraid of going to the gym at first because the general population there has frequented the gym for at least +2 years, if not more. Chances are, you'll be surrounded by extremely muscular and impressive people. However, the truth of the matter is, no one actually cares what you do at the gym. Everyone started off at zero, and the only exception are for the extremely rare cases of people being born with a myostatin inhibitor gene. Inflated egos are definitely a thing, but modesty plays out more often than not, and most people there are more than happy to help you if you need it. They all know what it was like being small, and have been there before. Don't be afraid to ask for help, and just use it as motivation to get stronger and better. Exercising takes an hour, two at most, of your day. For pure fitness advice(and not life guidance, mind you), I would start organizing a proper schedule so that you can eat and sleep at a mostly scheduled interval. Having a routine is very helpful in keeping yourself aligned on the track to fitness, because it will become second-nature to simply exercise, a mental barrier most people have trouble passing. Once you get used to it, it will be easy as pie. On the other hand, I'd really recommend making some more friends, getting a productive hobby, and perhaps getting a job.
