My band just got back from the studio and got some rough tracks and wanted to post a clip on here. Genre wise I'd say we are metal.
This video is me playing through the clip.

Tell me what you guys think!
I'm a bit frustrated by your technique, but overall it was pretty nice.
yeah, needs some work but good job nonetheless
I think it was great!

How so?

When you hit the snare, you kind of press down too much which is bad technique and inefficient. When you hit the snare, your stick should return to the former position it was at, meaning raised and not needing to lift the stick up to do another hit.
Also, you're going to get exhausted quick if you raise your sticks up so high like that. You don't need to have them that high to hit hard; you can hit just as hard if you're positioning is lower.
Your playing is solid, like I said, but your form is a bit inefficient.

I'm a tad confused. Care to link a video or something so I can get a better idea. I'm self taught.
typically, a lot more wrist and finger movement is involved with 'proper' technique, as eyefunk said, for efficiency. you can generally play a lot longer and faster, with more control that way.
you seem to move your whole forearm with each stroke which isn't a very good thing to do. I can't tell how hard you're gripping the stick in the video, but your style of playing tends to have problems with tension in the hands.
I love the mix, it's rough as fuck but just works.

Search for finger technique/moeller technique on youtube.
These vocals are to much for me, I rather have less of these pushed vocals and more of the instrumental.

How did you mic the toms to get that sexy sound?
