With "The Last Knight" less than a year away, the promotional campaign for the next live action Transformers film has begun to kick off in earnest. The latest? A billboard near New York City's Times Square! This giant piece of art shows Optimus Prime facing off against demon-like beings. In between them? An interesting flag with a symbol with a Decepticon symbol that looks a tad different than the ones we have seen in the past (though that may just be a design flourish).
In case anyone didn't know [spoilers?]; [sp]it was announced that Megatron is returning to wreck havoc in TF5, but its rumored to take the form of a flying alt mode as stated in a apparent script leak. http://news.tfw2005.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/10/2016/06/Transformers-5-Megatron.jpg[/sp]

Also on the news; "World's Loneliest Dog" Freya has been adopted by a caring family shortly after her filming was done. Bay said that he was "delighted to hear that Freya has a loving home."

Thoughts: The marketing for the film is in full speed to make it look as awesome as possible. One of them being a billboard featuring Optimus Prime with a new sword(?) facing off against a new enemy; a three-headed robot dragon. The Decepticon symbol on the flag looks different, almost a combination of the symbol and the Spartan "V" symbol. Some fan crazier than me probably knows what the reference will be if it means anything at all.
Mecha-King Ghidorah in a transformers movie.

It also fits the rumors that [sp]Megaton is getting an altmode that lets him fly.[/sp] Transformers 5 is inching away to becoming a full-on Kaiju movie. I'm okay with this.

well shit, there goes my hope of quintessons, unless those hound things are on their planet.
well shit, there goes my hope of quintessons, unless those hound things are on their planet.
Going back to TF4's ending and supposed leaked script(third source down, spoiler potential) [sp]Optimus Prime still goes to space to find the creators(could be Quintessons) on Cybertron(he might have used the Ark on the Moon to get there), Bumblebee is left in charge of the Autobots as Megatron regains his old self with returning Decepticons like Barricade(confirmed!). Prime comes back to find another artifact dating back to King Arthur's time and use it to revive Cybertron for good, and a battle is gonna take place on Stonehenge with Prime wielding Excalibur/Star Saber.[/sp] This...is gonna be some sequel.
I'm so confused, what does the dog story have to do with the Transformers stuff?
I'm so confused, what does the dog story have to do with the Transformers stuff?
Because there was a story that Bay chose the dog for a small role in the film. In exchange, if someone didn't adopt the dog after filming or after the first trailer, Bay would adopt Freya(He's a big pet advocate). By the end, someone did adopt the dog, and apparently the new owners are nice compared to Freya's poor record. Planet X when
Story details are kind of odd, but I enjoyed Age of Extinction more that I did the previous two combined. So if it's anything like that, I'm excited.
Also, looks like a regular Decepticon logo to me.
Age of extinction is a huge clusterfuck of slow-mo moves, unexplained twists, and all full full (bad) American acting. This doesnt seem an improvement in my opinión.

What makes American acting so unique?

Head whipping to face the camera followed by a "My God."

I just realized this recently when I fell out of suspension of disbelief with the marvel movies
Watch the movies and try to view the characters as people. Like, as people in a real scenario. It falls to pieces because character's reactions are almost nonexistent and the acting is just INCREDIBLY bland, non-nuanced, and generic.
Not all movies are like that, but blockbusters like Transformers are. The actors build 0 character at all beyond what's on the script.
I'm not excited for the movie at all and don't have good expectations but I'm really happy about how they brought awareness to the dog and managed to get her a home, and if they didn't then Bay would adopt it hiimself.
Really cool of him

how is that possible, age of extinction was awful.

I get what you're saying and large american films are certainly guilty of it, but I don't necessarily think holding up that particular genre to a light as an example is really fair. Those films are okay and the acting in them is tailored for the current comic book filmic stylings.
I mean Gods of Egypt was pretty terrible and the acting in that was pretty terrible, but that wasn't just americans failing either.

To some I suppose; but Age of Extinction, I felt, was more interesting than its predecessors. It certainly had its cringe-worthy moments or Bayisms, but with these movies I'm not expecting a stellar piece of cinema beyond just being "badass" or "cool". Even then, I felt AoE's little dash of mystery as to who the Creators are and the knights offered some interesting possibilities in the future that I wish to see.

yeah but you are literally the only person i've seen give it a positive review, let alone say it was better than 2 and 3. i mean sure they're all turds and the only one that can actually be re-watched is the first one, but even when i went into theaters with my expectations lowered, i still came out annoyed.

It's all perspective. To each his own. Neither right nor wrong.

You're pretty much the only one who can see AoE so positively. I mean the knowledge of "The Creators" is pretty much the one and only positive I can think of that I actually look forward to seeing in TF5. Though there is nothing wrong with that, I do hope Bee gets squashed because apparently we still haven't fixed that annoying RD-D2 speak since the first one. [sp]This isn't gonna work well if he's going to lead the freaking Autobots on Earth.[/sp]

I thought Mark Wahlberg was more bearable to watch than Shia Lebeouf in the three films, and I thought Kelsey Grammar and Stanley Tucci were entertaining to watch, as well. I felt the new Autobots had more character and weren't solely set pieces this time around; and Lockdown had enough presence and mystery to keep you curious. Its fights are dumb fun spectacle at times; and I can't get enough of Peter Cullen's voice and how Optimus Prime- although messianic as he is- is a badass. It has it's fair amount of flaws and stupid things, but compared to the other two sequels, I just found myself more invested in it than the previous ones and, as such, had more fun watching it. Again, it's not some award worthy movie or anything, but it was a fun watch for me.
I share grievances such as the young couple that add nothing but pretty faces and a damsel in distress; Bumblebee's persistent speech impediment to be more cute; Lockdown's dialogue can seem more childish than intimidating; and how halfway through the movie it looses focus and somehow we're all talking about Megatron, again (I mean, really Megatron- Galvatron, same difference- how many times can he die and return). To name a few.
I just wish the series could get away from Michael Bay and start actually focusing on the Transformers as characters and the Autobot/Decepticon conflict and not just means to an explosion.

I enjoyed Age of Extinction because it actually focused more on the robots and less on the humans. Plus seeing Optimus being rightfully pissed off at seeing his friends getting melted was actually pretty surprising in regards to his usual peaceful and calm attitude.
Also Hound was by far my favorite character in the film. John Goodman can do no wrong.

Both of these, too. AoE flipped the series on its head a bit and made Optimus- whom had always defended humans- was rightfully waning in his loyalties, which I thought made him a lot more interesting, too.

No no no! Now they're using a RETRO style font. It's BETTER! Cough.
This whole movie series of transformers is basically just CGI porn for the masses, and I guess you can't really fault it for servicing that niche. But hopefully there will be some more exciting animated movies to come (or hey, I'm open to a GOOD live action film if that's even possible). When is someone going to make a Beast Wars movie, come on!

Hasbro/Paramount is getting aggressive with its BTS news and advertising for TF5. Sometimes there are two-three developments in one day. Surprised that their isn't a movie thread for this in GD; TF5 is turning out to be an interesting movie more so than TF4.
A closer image of the NY billboard, cermenting the fact that its one Decepticon instead of three. Is it a Predacon, Predaking, or [sp]Megatorn's alt form[/sp] as rumored? The new Decepticon logo is also visible.

Prime in the poster looks like what his Knight transformation would have looked like if they stuck with the "Silver Knight" concept.

Speaking of the new logo, a new human character was announced being played by Santiago Cabrera of "Heroes" and "Merlin" fame. His role in the film in unknown. That upside-down Spartan "V" looks familiar...
