A cause for concern for parents after a video posted on-line showed students from a South Florida high school playing a slap game while security guards looked on.
One of the videos was posted on-line on Nov. 21. The school district was made aware of it earlier Thursday, when 7News sent it over to them, and it raises serious questions about school security.
The videos were posted on Facebook and YouTube. One of them is called "Slap Fest."
In it, you see exactly what the title describes: students hitting each other right across the face, open handed.
Multiple students have told us this happened inside the cafeteria at Miami Coral Park Senior High school in Southwest Miami-Dade.
They say the events happened in front of two school security guards. They identify the man straight ahead in the hooded sweatshirt and the man to his right, wearing the dark colored jacket with the word "security" on the back, as security guards. Those men, as seen in the videos, do nothing to stop the "Slap Fest" right in front of them.
In the crowd you even hear a reference to security.
Video audio: "The security guard is just there like."
A spokesman with the Miami-Dade County School Board released this statement to 7News: "The principal was able to view the video. We will be speaking with our employees tomorrow, and if it is found they were neglecting their duties there will be serious consequences."
Because the school district was just made aware of the videos, there is no word on what may or may not happen to those men identified as school security guards.
This is actually my home high school. If I remember correctly, there was a stabbing there a few years back.
so? sounds like a harmless game with no malicious intent but to slap your friend for fun, it's a school, shit like that happens all the time. How is this an issue, let alone in the news... Or am I completely missing something here?

Don't think you are, typical case of school/parents blowing some teenagers messing about way out of proportion. Its like they don't remember that they were young once.
"Let's get these guys in trouble for something everyone seems to be enjoying."
A slapping duel sounds a hell of a lot harmless compared to the other shit that students do.
Also, um, why does a school have security guards?

Plenty of public schools do.
Has nobody ever done this??
It might be in a bad neighborhood/there might be problems with theft or something. Also they might have been added at some point in case of a school shooter.

I mean the high school I went to was in a suburb and there was still one armed security guard/plain clothes police officer there.

It's the US, schools need security there for some reason. 'The american school in the Netherlands' (actual name) even has private security.
NO FUCKING WAY KIDS ARE HAVING FUN. CALL THE PRESSES.

slap fights are the bane of our public education system

Despite the fact there were just a shooting recently, this is also a quite common procedure for public schools.
Slap fighting is gateway battery
Only solution is to shoot the place up

My highschool has 3 security guards and 2 cops that are always in the building or patrolling the campus. I go to one of the biggest highschools in my city though

To stop [del]security threats[/del] kids from smoking weed.
Do the news companies really have nothing better to say something about? The kids at the school must have felt like right twats being interviewed for something so petty.

do u even swing?
uhhh it's all in the wrists, get it right.
When I was in high school people use to play bag tag. Hopefully I don't have to explain what it is.
It's funny people are getting all up in arms like the kids were attaching each other. Yeah it's a bit much for school, but they were shaking hands and brofisting eachother like it was "good game man".
Did you guys watch the video? They were going at it hard.
I don't find it okay
Most unnewsworthy news of 2012.
Now there's an article!

Except it was all in good fun. Heck the two even shake hands after that.
Ah, slap-fights. I once got knocked out during one. It was awesome.
I think the point is rules have to be enforced and organizing slap fights is similar to organizing fights in school grounds.
