So I know Dredd is pretty popular on Facepunch, and it's my all time favorite movie, but there's a petition going on regarding making a sequel to Dredd. So far it has 10,000 signatures and the Facebook page has over 30,000 likes now. The make-a-sequel campaign is being officially endorsed by 2000 AD. I'll provide links below.
Also at Comic Con 2013, Karl Urban, the actor who plays Dredd for those who don't know, was astonished with the home video sales (650,000 in the first week) and he knows there's "a fanbase out there that wants us to make a sequel."
"I think the more people that campaign for it, the more people that email, Twitter and write into Lionsgate and say 'We want to see more of this,' then the more likelihood is that we'll get to see that. We certainly are doing everything we can to ensure that happens."
-Urban
So there is a possibility that a Dredd sequel will happen, we just need to show more support for it.
Here's hoping for a sequel!

1:03 is when he talks about the Dredd Sequel.
I hope it gets a sequel. I loved the first film, it is a shame that not many people saw it.
I loved the first film, a sequel would be brilliant. Plus I think the director said that he'd probably want to do the Dark Judges in the third film, and you can't have a third film without a second, so a sequel is sorely needed :v:
At first I thought it would be a terrible movie but then I saw it and holy fuck with icing on top It was my best movie of 2012. IMO Karl urban IS judge dredd.
I love movies like this, Youd never think it would be a badass movie but I was drawn into it.
Yeah i thought Dredd look kinda dumb but then i watched and it was awesome!
well i knew it couldnt be any worse than the stallone movie
and holy shit was dredd awesome
i really do hope this sequel gets greenlit
we need more R-rated comic book movies anyway
Subscribed, for all the good it'll do. They need to make a sequel. I'll bet that Rusty is gonna jump all over this.
Fantastic film, forced a bunch of friends to watch the movie one night and they all bought it on bluray the next day.
It'll be as big of a crime as Firefly getting cancelled if this doesn't get a sequel.
The petition now has 20,000 signatures and Entertainment Weekly mentioned the petition too.

I didn't see this in theaters because I thought it was going to be a cheesy moneygrab of a comic book movie. It's actually a seriously good action movie. The comic book part is almost beside the point, this movie is like a futuristic Die Hard.
It really ought to get a sequel they planned it out pretty well. Second movie is about Dredd questioning the system more and Third movie was supposed to include Dark Judges if the director and Karl have any say in it.

I thought the second would be based on the Origins comic storyline (or something about origins) and the third would be the Dark Judges. I'm glad someone brought this to the attention of Facepunch. I thought about it but figured I'd do a shit OP and get banned over it. Regardless hope we get a sequel and I'd love to see how they would do the Dark Judges.

How many did they want/need for the sequel? Probably more than 20,000, right?

Don't know, but they hit 52,000 today.

i think that's more than a required amount
the white house petition site only needs 25k to get a response. i think if they can hit 70k then lgf will definitely look into a sequel.
this trilogy has alot of potential. like the dark judges alone sounds awesome enough for a sequel
re-watched dredd last night, great film!
If they are going to make a sequel my little wish is they use practical effects for blood. Dredd had moments where it was okay but other where it was obviously CGI.
I didn't mind the obvious CGI in Dredd, it fitted the style of the movie.
One thing I did notice is that the picture quality did fluctuate throughout the film, as if they used a substandard camera for some of the shots. I hope they can fix that.

I recall Karl talking about him questioning the system in the sequel during a brief IGN interview but he stated this was all talk and nothing concrete.
It's likely the could weave the notion of him questioning the system into an origins-based story. Hopefully the sequel will prove to be a more in-depth character study of Dredd directly regardless of plot, since the first movie felt more indirect than anticipated.

I Like the blood effects from Django unchained best.
Verhoeven does it best although Django Unchained comes close. Especially with the gunfight after[sp]the deaths of Schultz and Candie.[/sp]
Still, it's Paul Verhoeven's blood effects for me.

Oh and subscribed for the campaign
Is CGI cheaper than practical effects? I have no idea
Depends but for blood, gunshots and so on I think yes.
cheaper, probably.
does it look better? fuck no.
Yeah when I was watching the behind the scenes, they were entirely on a low budget--low enough that they couldn't advertise as much as they wanted to which was partially the result of it doing poorly in the box office.

I'm not so sure. I remember Ridley Scott talking about practical vs CGI (on a large scale, yes, but I'm pretty sure it's about the same difference) and he said that practical effects were more cost effective. The only problem is with a lower budget film, they'd need more clothes and costumes in case they blew a take and now there's a whole shitload of blood that'll either never come off or it will be too damn expensive/time consuming.

I don't think it's down to advertising. I think the vast majority of the universe would look at a short advert of such a film and think 'it's fucking stupid looking'.
Then again, i'm rather more cynical than most when it comes to adverts
Plus, who knows how many theaters actually got the film. My local theater had posters, but didn't ever order the film itself.
