Ten middle school students were injured after being hit with a golf cart on the Clovis North Educational Center campus Monday morning. All of the students involved are in the 7th and 8th grade, although the Clovis North campus combines both students from Granite Ridge Intermediate and Clovis North High School. Two had serious injuries, including a broken leg. Fresno police are investigating what happened but say it doesn't appear that the 13-year-old driver meant to hurt anyone. Sebastian Fortunato, a high school senior, says he was walking to class when he heard someone yell. "I turn, and there's this kid driving the golf cart. And then all of sudden, he just smashes into a group of people who are standing around waiting for class," Fortunato says. Police say the student driver struck nine others, sending seven teens, ages 13 to 14, to local hospitals. I hope he gets to retake the driver's exam, lots of people fail the first time
ugh, golf carts especially older ones can be very dangerous to drive, some 13 year old took off the side of my brother's car once because she "borrowed" her mother's rented golf cart which was one of the extra long ones and couldn't turn it at all newer computer regulated ones will not go faster than their governor chip allows them to, like they will litterally slow down if they exceed 20mph, but older ones pretty much can go as fast as the motor allows which can lead to them being as dangerous as a car [editline]14th October 2014[/editline]
"Our investigation will be into whether the cart could have moved without a key present," Avants says.
also many of the older carts, the keys can be removed from the ignition with it in the on position or left on in the drive position. i've personally put a cart through a door with no key in the ignition
hahahah, wish I'd seen that scene Like, you're a teacher looking out the window thinking 'wat da ffff'
"I turn, and there's this kid driving the golf cart."
I hate it when that happens
My brother and I worked at a go-kart place a few years back. He was helping a cart get free from the guard-rail. The second he moved his foot, another kart careened into the railing where his foot had just been a half second before. It was an double-seat go-kart, so it was probably like 450lbs and it was probably going at 20mph. Absolutely would have shattered his ankle had he not arbitrarily moved his foot. According to him, the impact bent the metal railing temporarily. The kid didn't even care.
Isn't this undesirable for obvious reasons?
It is good if you need to keep the key on a key chain and don't want to have to constantly keep inserting and removing the key every time you need to move the kart, especially if you work in groundskeeping.
OP, I think the word you're looking for is careened rather than commandeer.
.. was this in central valley cali?
yes.

is cubeman okay?
OP, I think the word you're looking for is careened rather than commandeer.
Well he did commandeer the cart then careened into people.

Also, a stuck kart is a nuisance in a track especially if you're a prepubescent kid driving a gasoline-powered hunk of metal around a tight track.
I get to drive a gold cart at work and they're a lot of fun. This kid just wanted to help his buddies have a good time, I'm sure

The high school I went to had golf carts for the athletic staff. I was able to drive them because I was a manager for the football team and we mainly used them for get the game field painted and carry equipment or water pumps. The last year I was there, We had to switch to IDs instead of keys because one of the players managed to roll it going full speed to the practice field.
