GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Police say an off-duty police officer has shot and killed his son as the man fatally stabbed his mother at their Maryland home. Montgomery County police spokesman Capt. Jim Daly says the officer fired at his 25-year-old son Wednesday night after he saw him attack his mother with a sharp object in the family's Gaithersburg home. The woman — the officer's wife — was critically injured and later died at a hospital.
http://www.policeone.com/investigations/articles/6783551-2-dead-after-shooting-at-officers-home
The son, 25-year-old Christopher Stirkens, was declared dead at the scene. The wife, 53-year-old Denise Stirkens, was transported to a local hospital where life-saving efforts were unsuccessful. Police believe she died of stab wounds. Christopher Stirkens was a 2006 graduate of Magruder High School. A neighbor told us Christopher sometimes worked, but recently was “between jobs.” Neighbors say he did not own a car and would be seen walking in the area when he left the family home in which he still lived. Court records indicate Christopher Stirkens was arrested for possession of marijuana in 2009. The charge was ultimately dismissed. In 2012, Christopher Stirkens was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. That time he pleaded guilty and was fined $150 and court costs. [...]One neighbor told us Christopher’s friends were a rough crowd. That neighbor didn’t want his children nearby when the friends visited. The neighbor also told us police were sometimes called to the home. Montgomery County police would neither confirm nor deny that, saying that information is part of the ongoing investigation. Autopsies are being conducted on the bodies of the mother and son. Since the incident, investigators from the major crimes unit, the internal affairs division, and the State’s Attorney’s office have visited the shooting scene. For now, Sgt. Stirkens, a 27-year-veteran with the department, has been placed on administrative leave. That is routinely done in cases where officers discharge a weapon.
http://www.myfoxdc.com/story/24588357/police-say-son-was-stabbing-mother-when-shot-by-off-duty-officer#axzz2s0VAoNFN

That man will never be the same... That is some absolutely tragic shit right there. I can't even begin to comprehend how he feels
Wow that sucks for the cop, sounds like someone was having a withdraw and wanted some money. That sucks for him.
Holy fuck that's scary to know that a police officer can go crazy *glares at school police resource officer*
it was the son of the cop.
Holy fuck that's scary to know that a police officer can go crazy *glares at school police resource officer*
Did you read the article, his son attacked his mother fatally stabbing her, the father discharged his weapon at the attacker(son) in attempt to save/protect his wife. At least SKIM the quotes before responding.
What a sad tale, poorly worded title though.
Holy fuck that's scary to know that a police officer can go crazy *glares at school police resource officer*
Did you literally only read the title before posting.
Holy fuck that's scary to know that a police officer can go crazy *glares at school police resource officer*
how about you try reading sometime moron
Holy fuck that's scary to know that a police officer can go crazy *glares at school police resource officer*
I want you to know that we're giving you these boxes because we love you, and are concerned for your school's safety.
Holy fuck that's scary to know that a police officer can go crazy *glares at school police resource officer*
The dumb rating is not nearly potent enough for this post.
fuck that guy's life is so tragic, i hope he can come through this, just so tragic

He is now a widow and probably depressed and scarred as hell. Fucking come on Facepunch I know you're better than this.
what the actual fuck
For now, Sgt. Stirkens, a 27-year-veteran with the department, has been placed on administrative leave. That is routinely done in cases where officers discharge a weapon.
THIS. FUCK. It'd be really nice if this were more well known in any thread involving any cop firing a weapon.
Well that's fucking horrifying. My heart goes out to him, I can't even imagine what he must be going through.
The woman — the officer's wife — was critically injured and later died at a hospital.
That fucking sucks.

Fucking come on Facepunch I know you're better than this.
I'm sorry; but remember years back when a very common thing was to joke about peoples deaths by saying "did he drop any good loot" ?(it even became a fucking instaban sentence) I've seen much more distasteful things here, than that
Can't get much more tragic than this..
I'm sorry; but remember years back when a very common thing was to joke about peoples deaths by saying "did he drop any good loot" ?(it even became a fucking instaban sentence) I've seen much more distasteful things here, than that
In no way makes it ok.
In no way makes it ok.
Refer to my first post in this thread; you're putting words in my mouth if you get that from what I posted the people who made the posts have to deal with what happens because of it; it's always been like that
Jesus, come home. Wife is stabbed, your own son attacks you and you shoot him, wife then dies. To make it worse people are going to blame him saying if he didn't have a gun his son would still be alive.
Wow man. I really hope this cop and pull through from this horrible experience.
wow, that's rough. was honestly expecting a crazed police man from the title, but after reading the article I really feel bad for the guy. what a situation. if I were him, I have no clue what I would have done.
Refer to my first post in this thread; you're putting words in my mouth if you get that from what I posted
That still doesn't mean your second post was okay. Just because you said something nice at first doesn't mean you can go "We used to make fun of people dying all the time". It's still bad man.

I was bringing it up because I was surprised at how surprised he was that people can easily make shitty posts. Again I'll say "the people who made the posts have to deal with what happens because of it; it's always been like that"
Holy fucking shit, his life is fucking ruined. This is fucking terrible.
