• What is the importance of technology in modern society?

If one day, all the technology in the world, computers, weapons, cell phones, game consoles, vehicles, calculators, etc. were to just stop working? How long would it take for the world to collapse upon itself? How would life be improved, if at all? Would you be able to survive? Maintain your own sanity? I believe that within days, there would be major, if not complete loss of control. Due to the lack of firearms, crimes would be much harder to stop. however, with no technology, there would be less items people would want to steal. With out transportation, It would be harder for criminals to escape, while at the same time, it would be more difficult for authorities to capture them. would there even be any more authority? The list of things goes on and on, and I would like to hear what you have to say.
Humans couldn't live without it all, literally. We'd be plunged back into the dark ages if it all ceased to work. Grab a plow, get busy. :v:
Authority is a unfair concept anyway!
How exactly do guns stop working? They aren't electronic. I mean, I understand that you could wipe out all of the united states if you detonated an EMP at 40,000 ft, but guns don't just stop working. It's a mechanical object, for guns to randomly stop working physics would have to stop working too.
Technology isn't just electronics you know, the wheel, plow, and irrigation are all technology. Technology makes us human. Although since you are talking about modern technology/electronics, we will eventually get used to it after a major population drop. We also know all the technology that worked without electricity so we should be fine.
It keeps us pre-occupied from killing one another.
Makes life easier, that is all.

Sorry for any confusion.
Wheels don't just 'stop working'.
Ok fine, you may have a wheel. THAT IS ALL.
Makes life easier, that is all.
Easier is such an understatement at this point in time, nearly the entire world relies on technology now and without it we wouldn't have the food to support such a population, the ability to survive in harsh climates so easily, school couldn't function properly without lighting because no one could see, hospital would barely be able to keep people alive, and everything and everyone else would just go crazy.
Mechanical objects, such as guns, fall under technology in this situation. Sorry for any confusion.
Doesn't change the fact that they would still be usable. Unless you want to break the laws of physics...
Martial arts masters would then proceed to take over the world with their ancient kung-fu techniques.
Facepunch is the glue that holds together the gears of society
Considering that the majority of people would be vastly unprepared for such a situation, and that said people would lack the skill to survive/gather resources, I'd say that many people would die out. Those that are prepared or have some skill could probably survive for quite a while, if not indefinatly, depending on resources, location, and food.
many boxes for this thread
*fuck didn't read the gun line..umm...grab a pointy stick.*
So in a world without technology, you think the biggest setback would be crime? Right.
Technology is any tool used to serve a purpose. Without it we'd be reduced to a lesser organism.
Define 'technology'. My fork can also be considered technology.
We all die. Simple isn't it.
well that would be bad if it did happen, but it wont. Nobody is going to go around and destroy your spoons and lightbulbs.

Or maybe you don't like that because technology isn't beneficial to society.
Mechanical objects, such as guns, fall under technology in this situation. Sorry for any confusion.
So wait where do you draw the line? Because a rake is also a mechanical object. Or a shovel. Your hands are pretty much mechanical objects.

Some people don't know what technology means and are arguing about stuff they don't even understand.
