Special Counsel Robert Mueller issued grand jury subpoenas in recent days seeking testimony from public relations executives who worked on an international campaign organized by Paul Manafort, people directly familiar with the matter told NBC News.
This is the first public indication that Mueller's investigation is beginning to compel witness testimony before the grand jury — a significant milestone in an inquiry that is examining the conduct of President Donald Trump and his son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, among others.
It is also further indication that Manafort, Trump's onetime campaign chairman, could be in serious legal jeopardy.
According to one executive whose firm received a subpoena, Mueller's team is closely examining the lobbying campaign, which ran between 2012 and 2014. Some of the firms involved in the campaign received subpoenas for documents weeks ago, the executive said, and now the Mueller team is seeking testimony.
Well, with Trump getting dumber and stupider by the day, somebody has to balance it out by being awesome.
"Can't stop the Trump trai- ...Oh."
I know this is probably an irrational fear, but I've got a nagging worry that Mueller's not going to be impartial and he's going to find one of Trump's cronies to take the fall instead of Trump himself.

What makes you think Mueller would want to shield Trump like that?

Trump is as corrupt as they come, and I don't know much about Mueller aside from his professional history. Money and political favours are the language of Washington. I don't think it's a likely outcome, just a possibility I'm concerned about.

I hope you're right. I want to see this end with Trump behind bars. Every one of us knows he's dirty.

You sound like you believe either A) Mueller's investigation is totally honest and Trump will be impeached, removed from office, and imprisoned or B) Trump is declared more or less "extremely careless" and it means Mueller's investigation has been compromised somehow.
I don't think that Trump is a saint either, but there is the possibility that Mueller could conduct a thorough and truthful investigation that still ends up with Trump found... well, perhaps not "clean", but innocent of the allegations held against him. That's the thing about the justice system - a fair and impartial conclusion isn't necessarily the one you personally believe is right.
