• 2,000 jobs at risk as Tesco closes 43 stores after failing to compete

Thousands of Tesco workers have been told their jobs are at risk as the troubled supermarket chain announced the names of 43 stores facing closure. The closures are the result of the group's failure to compete with budget rivals Aldi and Lidl, which led to a continuing slump in sales and a succession of profit warnings. They're closing one of the stores I used to work at. About seventy jobs affected, it's pretty sad. I know people who still work there, I don't know what's happening to them.
Jesus, the comments on that article are bad, even for the Mail. "SOMEONE WAS RUDE TO ME ONCE THEREFORE THEY ALL DESERVE TO LOSE THEIR JOBS" I'm worried that other retailers might follow suit, I work for one of the big four supermarkets and the results have been doom and gloom so far. I can only take comfort that I do a job that few people in the company are trained for.
I've been told that some/all of the store managers have had to re-apply for their jobs, meaning they're going to trim some people. They're also closing the main office in Cheshunt and merging it into another office so more people are going to get lost in that transfer. Bad times for a lot of people.
