• TalkTalk are cutting off my internet when I use it "too much".

Got a letter today saying (paraphrased a bit) "Due to your usage habits and the subsiquent effect such heavy usage has on other customers, we will unfortunatly have to disable your connection if it is heavyly used during peak times, for up to two hours or untill off peak time. This will be effective from the 30th of March." And it seems from the past few nights of what I though was the weather fucking up my connection browsing FacePunch and having MSN and Steam open is "heavy use", so I spent twenty minutes waiting on hold to talk to someone, when I did get to talk to someone they could barely speak english and were about as useful as a cast iron snorkle. So basicly I can't use the internet when I normaly use it most, and they were too cheap to send the letter first class so I'd know about it before I was getting booted off. If you have wi-fi, it's time to start checking out the neighbor's connections & deciding which one will be your go-to backup
Fair usage policy :colbert:
get a different isp.
Don't get a shitty limited usage package, get the unlimited one.
Different ISP.
kill your isp and then yourself  (User was banned for this post ("trolling" - RawRKat!90))
Maybe you could invest in another ISP? If they can't speak your language and cut you off for "heavy usage" then I don't see why you should pay them for Internet.
this really
TalkTalk's fair usage policy is pretty shitty if you ask me.
TalkTalk is a residential voice service that aims to support most customer's residential telecommunications requirements. We apply a fair usage policy to our inclusive call packages in that we expect our customer's usage to be commensurate with standard residential calling patterns. If we believe that your usage of any "inclusive" TalkTalk service is more aligned to business telecommunications usage, we will contact you and put you in touch with our TalkTalk business team in order to transfer your service. In case of continuous excessive consumption, TalkTalk reserves the right to change the terms of your contract or even terminate our service to you. This Fair Usage Policy is implemented by TalkTalk in order to ensure that our network offers a reliable and quality service for all other TalkTalk customers and to ensure that our customers requirements, be they residential or business, are serviced in the most effective way.
Be* is an excellent ISP, not available in all areas though. o2 and Sky are good. Virgin/BT/Talk Talk/etc. are bad.
Be* is an excellent ISP, not available in all areas though. o2 and Sky are good. Virgin/BT/Talk Talk/etc. are bad.
This. You'll never have a problem downloading too much with Be, it was so nice not having to worry about throttling at all when I switched from BT.
Maybe you could invest in another ISP? If they can't speak your language and cut you off for "heavy usage" then I don't see why you should pay them for Internet.
I would love to, but I'm unemployed and live with my parents, if we had a basement I'd probably be in there right now. I can't do anything about it so I'm going to complain on the internet about it to make me feel better.
It's time to start using another provider. Why the fuck should a company be allowed to turn off a service that you paid for?
It's time to start using another provider. Why the fuck should a company be allowed to turn off a service that you paid for?
We're not paying really, it's free with the phone line :v:.
Be* is an excellent ISP, not available in all areas though. o2 and Sky are good. Virgin/BT/Talk Talk/etc. are bad.
Cox is pretty good where I live.
We're not paying really, it's free with the phone line :v:.
And therefore shit.
Get some other ISP. I really don't like having a cap, which is why I have a non-cap connection. Very nice.
OP, could you punch your postcode into http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php and give us the link it churns out so we can see what's available at your exchange?
That's actually kinda far from me, but still the nearest one. http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/NIBM
wrong virgin media is an excellent isp
Wrong, they throttle bittorrent and heavy users and are currently trialing deep packet inspection. http://torrentfreak.com/virgin-media-to-throttle-bittorrent-users-081216/ http://www.ispreview.co.uk/story/2009/11/26/virgin-media-uk-trial-deep-packet-inspection-to-track-illegal-file-sharing.html
You lucky bastard: I'd suggest, if you don't have an o2 mobile, http://www.bethere.co.uk/ - from what I've heard, they're absolutely awesome (unfortunately Be don't serve my exchange). If you do, look into http://broadband.o2.co.uk/ - they own Be and use their lines, so it's basically exactly the same, except customer support is different. Be > o2, but o2 > Be when it comes to pricing.
Oh no! Now you can only use the internet for 20 hours a day! Get a life, shit. (User was banned for this post ("flaming" - RawRKat!90))
TalkTalk are one of the worst ISP's you could get. I'm on BE, and it's so great not having to worry about packet shaping, throttling, fair usage policies. I am getting the fastest possible speed on my line.
Cox is pretty good where I live.
Hell yeah, Cox. They gave me a free cable box after mine broke, and gave me a free modem to replace my old one after it gave out.
I have Talk Talk, I heavily game and download. I haven't had this letter yet. Oh crap, maybe it's in the post. Anyway, I recommend changing to Virgin. Heard their internet is top notch at the moment.
Be* is an excellent ISP, not available in all areas though. o2 and Sky are good. Virgin/BT/Talk Talk/etc. are bad.
I have BT and it is bloody amazing, had it 5 years and hasnt let me down once but yeah, get a different isp i guess
Don't get a shitty limited usage package, get the unlimited one.
There is nothing as "unlimited bandwidth" it's just to sell more. Don't get me wrong though. If you buy an "unlimited bandwidth" package you will probably have huge bandwidth.
as it is said before new ISP. clearly these guys are trolling you by what i mean these guys i mean TalkTalk
why is that man dancing with a chair?
He also seems to have an erection
