Humans: 1 Robots: 0. Killer robot destroyed by US Jet.
An American "Reaper" flying hunter-killer robot assassin rebelled against its human controllers above Afghanistan on Sunday, and a manned US fighter jet was forced to shoot the rogue machine down before it unilaterally invaded a neighbouring country.
The Reaper, aka MQ-9 or Predator-B, is a large five-ton turboprop powered machine able to carry up to 14 Hellfire missiles - each capable of destroying a tank or flattening a building. It is used by the US and British forces above Afghanistan as a "persistent hunter-killer against emerging targets".
According to USAFCENT Public Affairs:
"The aircraft was flying a combat mission when positive control of the MQ-9 was lost. When the aircraft remained on a course that would depart Afghanistan's airspace, a US Air Force manned aircraft took proactive measures to down the Reaper in a remote area of northern Afghanistan."
The statement goes on to say that the errant killdroid "impacted the side of a mountain" and that there "were no reports of civilian injuries".
I dunno if the source is reliable or not, if it's not rate me boxes.
Skynet.
A jet isn't a human.
Humans make both robots and jets. One's manual controlled and the other's programmed to do what a human told it to.
In short: Your title sucks.
Noez. Dah rubut had feelingz. I make robot rites group now kk?
Wait so has the jet gotten the point or the person controlling it?
Reminds me of that movie with one of the Wayan Brothers.
Doesn't sounds true....
It wasn't a threat except for the possibility of it flying into neighbouring airspace and getting some other countries pissed off. They just lost communication with it and it kept flying forwards, hardly dangerous.

Wow, what shitty reporting.
Because the possibility of a robot malfunctioning and somehow goes evil is high, right?

I don't remember if it's autonomous or remote-controlled, but if it's autonomous (I'd assume it was since once they regained contact with it they weren't able to put it back on course, hence its destruction) it could unwittingly wreak some havoc if it ended up in the wrong place.
Actually, I just realized that they're probably autonomous to an extent, patrolling and maintaining a radar coverage, then breaking off a route to attack coordinates given to it by humans, even if humans don't actually remotely pilot it.
Is this correct?

No, it's a remote drone. It's too dangerous to have an automated vehicle equipped with hellfire missles, one mistake in the programming and it starts killing civilians or friendly troops because they move or have a heat signature.

It's remote controlled, it couldn't have done shit.

Alright, thanks. Rated informative.
In that case, that renders this article bullshit or at least mostly bullshit. I doubt a fighter would be dispatched to take down a drone that wasn't doing anything wrong. Hellfires (and drones) are expensive.
It's probably bullshit... Just some extra media-diarrhea from the UK to make people hate us.
Title is misleading.
They lost communication and it almost flew into restricted airspace. Hardly a "rogue drone."

Well it was coasting into forbidden airspace, which could cause some political turmoil, and they couldn't reconnect to it's controls so they just shot it down. Big waste of money, those things cost millions of dollars to build.

Nah, that's what it wanted us to think.

Fucking gifbin ruining it.

Rogue is the correct military term for a unit over which control has been lost.

What was it doing off its standard flight course in the first place? Don't they have patrol routes that are just monitored, not actively controlled? UAVs are in the air much longer than a single person could generally stand to fly a plane. Theoretically it should have continued its normal patrol on its own until control could be reestablished, or detected a loss of control and crash-landed itself. That's better than wasting fuel and ammunition (not to mention the money required to replace those resources) on launching an air-superiority jet to shoot it down.

News: Killer robot rebels against controllers, had to be shot down.
Reality: Unmanned aircraft malfunctioned, would've flown straight forward until crashing harmlessly into the ground. Destroyed to prevent capture.
Fuck

there was a movie like this, where the black guy gets shot down, and to get the jet to go to the goodguys side, they cut off its fuel supply.
You do realize the latest models of Reapers actually allow for it to "Free-Fire."
Free-Fire as in, choose it's own targets independently, you know that, right?
Reminds me of that movie "Stealth"
It's remote controlled, and some of them are even controlled by pilots here in the states, sounds to me like control was lost, simple issue really, so they shot it down
And no matter how automated they actually are, To Fire or Not is ALWAYS under human control

Not true!
In 2008 the New York Air National Guard 174th Fighter Wing began to transition from F-16 piloted planes to MQ-9 Reaper drones, which are capable of remote controlled or autonomous flight, becoming the first all-robot attack squadron.
Operator Optional, what it basically does is goes through a very large library of "images" it has downloaded onto it's onboard computer, where it processes targets based on threat, value, etc. that means it's able to tell the difference between a Technical and, say, a Ford Pickup.
The option to fire is open to the Drone.

that movie was terrible i can't believe anyone actually remembers it
Eagle eye? no one?
whatever

That was an AI, not the Drone itself.
