In typical pious-pimp fashion, I must interject here with my cynicism. It's nice and all to give free hugs but at the same time, silly, to indiscriminately make physical contact with strangers. Who knows what dreaded diseases they may carry, [I]those dirty French[/I]. Or Quebecans for that matter. Or Belgians. Or Luxembourgers. Or colonial-era French Indochinese or Algerians. Or any other place that speaks French.

Hugs should be reserved only for people that deserve it. If everyone was encouraged to hug complete strangers on a regular basis, then that form of affection would lose meaning. I mean, I could see if someone went out of their way to be nice to other people in the workplace, but isn't this a bit impractical?
