Democrats in Indiana Targeted with 'KKK' Vandalism

KOKOMO - When David Mendez walked into his front yard Monday morning, he noticed something different about the political signs in his neighbor's front yard.
"I couldn't believe what it said," Mendez said. "It said "KKK" on every sign that was out there."
Across the street from Fowler, a truck was also spray-painted with "KKK" on the driver and passenger doors, as well as on the hood of the car. The vehicle had the words, "Get out" on the windshield of the car, Fowler claims. Knikia Billingsley, who also works for Chrysler on the third shift, had the signs in her front yard targeted. She said when she pulled up and noticed the vandalism, she froze.
"I felt like a cross was burning in my yard," said Billingsley, who has lived in the neighborhood for less than two months.
Reports of racist vandalism around the 1500 block of North Purdum Street were first brought to the attention of the Howard County Democratic Party and Kokomo Police Department on Monday. In a KPD press release, officials noted that Kokomo police officers were dispatched Monday to different areas of the community in reference to the spray-painting of personal property, including political signs. In the release, officials said the spray-painting, which affected at least seven properties, could have happened late Sunday or early Monday.
Howard County Democratic Party Executive Director Nolan Born, however, said the party was informed that the damage likely took place sometime between 5 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Monday. Born said residential front doors, gates, a car and even an enclosed trailer were spray painted with racist message and threats, most of which referenced the Ku Klux Klan. Police said a street sign was also vandalized.
In a press release, party officials implied the vandalism was politically-motivated, saying the “only residences targeted were those displaying Democratic campaign signs and properties in close proximity to Democratic material. No other political party’s material was attacked.”
Howard County Democratic Party Chairwoman Kathy Skiles in the release condemned the attacks and reached out to those affected.
“These attacks, and the intimidation and fear they are causing, have no place in our community,” she said. “We stand with our friends and neighbors who are the victims of these attacks.

While it's nowhere near as bad as firebombing, Pence hasn't bothered to mention anything about this at all. He's still our governor, and this happened to his constituents. Maybe Pence is Christian first, conservative second, and Hoosier last. Hopefully this was just a dumb prank and doesn't escalate further.
Why would you spray KKK on Democrat signs?
Pence hasn't bothered to mention anything about this
Why would he. Why would anyone. Kokomo is a shitty town.
Why would he. Why would anyone. Kokomo is a shitty town.
After the firebombing (which was covered by every major media outlet), Pence complained that nobody was talking about it, and that if it were Democrats being targeted there would be a lot more uproar. His failure to mention this could be seen as hypocritical.
Obviously firebombing is more serious than petty vandalism, but targeting anybody with threats, violence, or intimidation based on their political leanings is pretty shitty.

there's at least some racist logic to that, but what does the KKK have to do with the democrats?

I think the idea of it is basically, "fuck you, courtesy of the KKK," especially when paired with the "get out" messages. It's just intimidation.

The KKK was historically Democrat.

At the time of Ulysses S. Grant's election to the presidency, white supremacists were conducting a reign of terror throughout the South. In outright defiance of the Republican-led federal government, Southern Democrats formed organizations that violently intimidated blacks and Republicans who tried to win political power.
The most prominent of these, the Ku Klux Klan, was formed in Pulaski, Tennessee, in 1865. Originally founded as a social club for former Confederate soldiers, the Klan evolved into a terrorist organization. It would be responsible for thousands of deaths, and would help to weaken the political power of Southern blacks and Republicans.
That's from before the parties switched sides for whatever reason. Democrats were right-wing back then, but they've shifted to left-wing now.

And that matters how? Where the democrat party is on the scale today doesn't matter. People associate the KKK with the Democratic Party because they have originated with them.
Plus the question was:
but what does the KKK have to do with the democrats?
You may not like the answer, but people can and do act on history.
Literally nobody associates the KKK with the Democratic party in a modern context

Such as...who?
Most people associate the KKK with Republicans

Somehow, I doubt that the vandal going around spray painting "GET OUT" and "KKK" on people's cars is doing so to raise awareness of the fact that democrats had different ideals in the 1800s. I mean, I guess we can't rule it out, but this really doesn't seem like the action of a passionate historian lol
Much more likely is that this is just some ignorant, alt-right teenager going around and fucking with people's property to espouse some shallow, racist shit. Prolly spends his free time calling people cucks on /pol/.
Literally nobody associates the KKK with the Democratic party in a modern context
except people who want to insult democrats of/c
its like looking at any right winger and going "yeah!! Well nazi's are right wing" etc
People associate the KKK with the Democratic Party because they have originated with them.
No? this is the first time I hear anything in modern context linking the two.
heck, I don't even link the republican party with the KKK. Despite what the GOP has been doing lately, in the end of the day, one is an official political party, the other a hate group

Why are the diehard republicans always so out of touch?
Why are the diehard republicans always so out of touch?
because die hard politics in general is detached from reality
Why are the diehard republicans always so out of touch?
At least it's not the far-right who say Hitler was a leftist so it fits their black and white narrative of "right = good, left = evil".
