Porsche Really Wants the Mission E to Stomp Tesla Via Automobile Mag _________________________
The Tesla Model S has enjoyed a lot of success over the last half-decade, racking up accolades and fervent supporters with every new announcement and development. Like the rest of the world, Porsche has watched closely as support and enthusiasm for electric cars has grown. And as we’ve seen with the seductive and futuristic Porsche Mission E concept, it thinks it can do better. How much better, though? A Porsche engineer not working directly on the project tells AUTOMOBILE that the Mission E will be “something special,” and that a crazy amount of work is being done to make sure it’s “a true Porsche through and through.” “It’ll be something entirely different than any of its competitors, across the board” a product manager from Porsche adds. “The thing about [Tesla’s] Ludicrous mode is that it’s a façade. Two launches saps the whole battery. That won’t be the case with the Mission E. You’ll be able to run it hard, over and over; the battery will not overheat, the power control module will not overheat, and the seats will not suck.”
Them's fighting words, Porsche. Also, just in looks alone, they've already beat Tesla, I must say. The car is drop dead gorgeous.
It looks like someone failed at eviscerating it
Hopefully they can make it do well on the track then, but it's not coming until 2019 apparently so maybe Tesla will have it's new Roadster out about the same time. 0 - 60 in less than 3.5 seconds is pretty mediocre though. Some real competition for Tesla's EVs might be nice though.
The thing about [Tesla’s] Ludicrous mode is that it’s a façade. Even a Facepunch member has taken his Model S (although not the performance version) and did 28 drag strip races on it and only took the battery down from 96% to 52%:

Plus, Porsche is an engineering company, I trust them when they say "the car will do this, and this, and this, and will do it all day with no problems." They'll deliver.
That machine looks fantastic!

The cooling systems in Tesla's cars isn't adequate for track racing but I think they will change that with the new Roadster. We know that Tesla are aiming for 0 - 60 in less than 2.8 seconds with the new Roadster.
I'm loving all this electric competition. I can't fucking wait until I can get an affordable electric because I just love the idea of them so much more that our current cars.
Since VW announced a complete change of buisiness strategy to go green two weeks ago this might be something!

I'm looking forward to the new Roadster though. Having a Lotus Elise myself I'd hope they go for the same design style.

Good. Tesla wants Porsche to stomp them, they want someone to stomp them in the market because thats literally the whole point of Tesla's existence, to force the market to change and force tech to advance by forcing them to compete to stay alive.

This is great. I love that more and more car companies are researching and building electric vehicles. We need to move this direction or else we're fucked in the long run.
All according to Musk's plans.
eyyy das me
I forgot your Facepunch handle :X
Yeah but can it make it over a speed bump or out the driveway without scraping the fuck out of itself? :v:
I forgot your Facepunch handle :X
That's alright I still love you. Ontopic: I'll believe it when I see it. No one should give any credence to concepts, making claims and predictions at this point is just conjecture. Same goes for Tesla despite my bias. As much as I want the Model 3 to be a spaceship on wheels - and I'm even considering selling my S for a fully loaded 3 - we won't know till we know.
be the 1st electric sports pls
be the 1st electric sports pls
Not the first BEV sports car.
oh shit forgot about roadster, it's been years
I can only assume this will be in the 918 price/performance range, and as a track-focused car I'm just not that interested in it. I love Porsche and would certainly go for something like this in a different situation, but it seems like they're fighting a different battle than Tesla (effective democratization of EVs) :v: It certainly looks fantastic, but for the price I know it will be it should look fucking incredible.
be the 1st electric sports pls
There are a lot of EV sports cars. Look up Rimac Concept One.
I almost want to see if I can keep my chinese scooter alive long enough to get an electric [editline]23rd June 2016[/editline] these cars are fucking SLICK
Also the AC Propulsion TZero. The car that gave birth to the Tesla Roadster.
