[release]
STATUS OF CONCEPT: DECIDED - "Historical Events"
(PROCESS COMPLETED)We've decided to MAKE SOME IDEAS: - Descent into Madness (for some reason) - Kids run from home and discover - Writings from HP Lovecraft - Historical Events - How hard it is to fit in - Fighting against Dictators - The media dumbening down people's minds. - Process of Life - Nostalgia/Childhood - Elements of Life (Love, Fear, Anguish, Despair etc) Don't submit ideas where you have to read a book or watch a movie because that just isn't gonna happen with a group. Topics only.
STAGE 2: MAKING DEMOS
Choose a historical event that you have an idea for, upload it to soundcloud (it's the best for mediatags) and post it or PM it to me. [/release] Okay, we've been through a lot with the previous two albums. I just wanted to say that you were all awesome, because we had a lot of fun. Even if people hate each other, we still have love enough to make music. You may not believe it, but in total the concept albums have been downloaded 200 times and playback for both has been a little over 2500! Now the reason these are so much more fun than simply a "post a song it will be in our album", is because we discuss and we listen. I listened to each and every thing that was posted in the last two threads. Whether they "sounded" good, didn't matter because they each had personality. Concept albums don't have to be simply "themed", it's more a mindset that the listener has to obtain in order to enjoy it. There have been many ideas down the line: Stories, emotions, history, life in the modern world, space..... you name it. Anyone can submit an idea or track to the discussion.
A few examples of concept albums: [img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/3b/Dark_Side_of_the_Moon.png[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://www.ad-lister.co.uk/Shared/UserImages/5e9d70a9-13f1-4b69-86a8-651544f1413e/Img/marvin-gaye-whats-going-on-355498.jpg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://coolalbumreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/david_bowie_rise_fall_of_ziggy_stardust_spiders_from_mars-AYL1-3843-1162669353.jpeg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6b/NasIllmatic.jpg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://www.coverdude.com/covers/genesis-the-lamb-lies-down-on-broadway-remastered-front-cover-37443.jpg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://www.virginmedia.com/images/yes_tales-300x300.jpg[/img_thumb]
[sub][sub]and one last note, I truly am sorry. :v:[/sub][/sub]
As previously mentioned, I think we should deal with descent into madness with this concept album. It starts of serene, simple, calm, and slowly but surely the songs get more chaotic and complex, until it finally explodes with the most chaotic, insane song we can possibly make. I'll see if I can at least come up with some riffs for this album, I still have a crappy guitar and recording interface so I doubt I can polish my stuff to a level that is needed on these albums, but I can still make riffs up. =) I'd also like to throw in (again) my modest mastering skills, I have a lot of time on my hand and I think I'm getting pretty decent at it! =)
So would you have a kind of "ambient" or uplifting start, and then get noisier and heavier towards the end? I think it's an interesting idea, how the music gets slowly insane, but what would you have in the middle? I watched Apocalypse Now last night, it's a good example of a movie that goes slowly insane as it progresses. Maybe it could be about war?

We've had enough ambient shit already and we should really have something more interesting in these concept albums already. What happens in the middle? Shit goes insane. And why do we need another concept? Insanity is already a good concept and we don't need some war to make the lyric-less album even more incoherent.

It's just because we can't just have "Insanity" as a concept. If you think it's viable and everyone agrees, fair enough.
I've just bought a digital piano, going to pick it up on monday. Count me in on the next collaboration :)
so I wanted to tell my opinion.
You also said "Shit Goes Insane". Must elaborate. :>
You also said "Shit Goes Insane". Must elaborate. :>
First few tracks are chill and peaceful, middle tracks start to progressively go crazy, last tracks are chaotic and then it ends in a peaceful song (maybe a reprise of one of the early songs?)
Cool. Disregard the "ambient" thing, because there's more ways to be peaceful and not be ambient. I personally think it's a vague idea, good musically though. Just needs a bit more thought.

Would soundscapes be compatible with the project?
Would soundscapes be compatible with the project?
A half-minute sound effect segue every now and then could be nice.
Ohhh I wanna help this time. I'd imagine one of the crazy songs sounding like one of Can's weirder tracks.
the more the merrier, just so long as everyone "gets" the idea.
the idea is someone going mad?
the idea is someone going mad?
yes. it'll be easy. :v:
If we do go with the 'decent into madness' idea, count me in! Also, I have been experimenting with stream of consciousnesses/automatic writing - perhaps that could add an interesting texture.
This is gonna be awesome.
I think we should take inspiration from a certain book, by mr H.P Lovecraft. How about The Call Of Cthulhu? It's for free, so download and read it, and come up with ideas. =)
AK'z posted this earlier in the last thread: It should be about that
ah yes, I remember. It was a superb artwork.
Also, I just got an idea for a few names. A song early in the album could be called "A Piece Of My Mind" while the last song (repraise) could be called "A Peace In My Mind". Eh?
that is just so cheesy
good song name.
that is just so cheesy
I know! Everything I do is pretty damn cheesy.
song names should be got by going to crazy homeless people and talking to them, noting down particularly great things they say. Seriously crazy baseheads come out with the best lines
