Transcendental Meditation - Does anyone do it? Should I take it up?

Lately I've been considering taking up Transcendental Meditation. I was introduced to it by David Lynch, whom I'm a huge fan of and who's been doing it for 30 years. I'm looking to just achieve a more peaceful state of being and to go through the day feeling more relaxed.
Has anyone here tried it? Would you recommend it? My huge concern is that I read an article saying more than half the people who do it could be subject to seriously adverse side-effects that basically make them feel the opposite of how meditation should.
Sorry, i was just meditading furiously to your avatar.
i meditate in the shower.

if by meditate you mean stand there and think about life shit.
meditation is fantastic for the body, but obviously don't expect it to grant you super buddha powers or anything. I'd definitely give it a go OP

I won't lie, when you said "meditate in the shower" I had a whole different picture in my head.
Don't bother doing transcendental meditation, that's too much work. It won't give you great results, either.
There is, however, one thing you can do that's far easier and, if you do it right, will flood you with adrenaline and endorphins. Tricks your mind into releasing it. I've done it for a while, but I've never seen a tutorial on it anywhere. My martial arts instructor told me how to do it. If anyone cares, I'll post a tutorial later.
I bought a book about it from some hipster book store in my town. It's apparently what The Beatles were into when they made The White Album. Probably should get around to reading it.

Yes please, this is very interesting.
Meditation is very good for the human psyche, I highly suggest practicing meditating if you've got some free time that you'd like to use productively, wiythout staring at a screen like you are right now.
Ther's an easy, beginner method to meditation, and that is to sit in a comfortable position with your eyes closed, and to focus on the tip of your nsoe while breathing deeply.
Any kind of meditations good. Except for :fappery:

I can think of many things that are a lot more productive than meditating.

Okey doke.
lay down, close your eyes. Just get as comfortable as possible and try not to move. Focus on your breathing. In, out. In, out. Clear your head.
Now imagine yourself in a white room. Nothing around, just a white room. Maybe it has walls, maybe it doesn't. You don't know. All you see is white.
Now imagine a table in this room. You walk up to it. On the table is an apple and a candle. You focus on the candle first. Approach it, examine it. Look how the wax drips down the candle, feel the heat of the flame on your hands. Really feel it. (You should actually feel your hand getting hot at this point. If it doesn't work, it's not a bad thing. The apple will.)
Now focus on the apple. Look at it, admire the texture. Feel it between your fingers. Take a bite. Feel the texture on your teeth, savor the taste, feel the juice dripping down your chin.
At this point, you should start to feel a very weird feeling. For some people it starts in their toes, mine starts in my chest. If you don't have that yet, keep repeating the candle and apple thing. It's important to not get impatient.
Now, once you feel that feeling, you have a couple options. I prefer to quickly blink to clear my mind and then immediately imagine that I'm transparent and that feeling is manifesting itself as a light inside my body. (Interestingly enough, when different people do this, the light has different colors. If you look up an aura chart, generally it corresponds to this color. Dunno why.) Then just slowly imagine that light filling up your body and expanding. It takes focus and patience, but it works.
Once you feel it all over, you can either stop, or just let it sit there for a while. It feels great, but it is kind of hard to breathe sometimes. If you get really good at it, you can just focus it on different parts of your body.
I honestly don't know what it is, but I know the effect. After you do all that, if you go to sleep, you'll wake up the next day feeling better than you ever have, I guarantee it. Doesn't matter how much sleep you got, you'll be happy and ready to tackle ANYTHING.
For some reason, this doesn't work if you do it day after day. Give it a few days then try it again. I would suggest only once a week, but it's a great way to unwind.
Retards mixing up philosophy and meditation.. :sigh:
Meditation is about relaxing yourself, sometimes putting yourself into trances. The buddhist guys also says that you can "go in tune with matter" and materialise things and shit.. Wich isnt right because magic and unicorns dosent exist.
I don't know what Transcendental Meditation is, but if sensory deprivation counts, I fucking love transcendental meditation.
I meditate on the toilet before i take a shower, then i sometimes fall asleep since im in fetal position
When the OP said David Lynch I was thinking of the guy who wrote the "Special ed" song.

Oh and also I'm not paying $750 to learn how to meditate.
I hear taking a walk in a park or forest can be pretty relaxing. Just make sure you don't trip over a log and fall on any sharp objects.
