I think you put the back ground in the picture not the other way around...? I don't know but that might be how.

If you do this and press OK, it will unlock the layer. Now just press DELETE on your keyboard to destroy the selected area, if you see gray and white checkerboard... your picture is now transparent and you can put it on any other picture by dragging and dropping. now rate me info.

Best way is to learn how to use the pen tool, and use it.
