Those annoying Windows 10 upgrade notifications will finally go away for good
Microsoft's incessant notifications telling you to upgrade to Windows 10 will soon be a thing of the past.
If you're on a PC and don't have Windows 10 already then you'll likely have seen one or two hundred of these popups over the past year.
Rest assured, there is an end in sight - on 29th July.
"Details are still being finalised, but on 29th July the Get Windows 10 app that facilitates the easy upgrade to Windows 10 will be disabled and eventually removed from PCs worldwide," Winbeta reported.

It's worth remembering, however, that it will cost you $199 to change your mind and upgrade to Windows 10 after 29th July. So if you are still waiting for a rainy day to do the hour-long installation - get it done before you have to pay.
200 fucking dollars, fucking what?
Wow that's a steep price considering I bought a key when it first came out for 140$
Speaking of which is there a way to turn off the random auto installs for the windows 10 upgrade?
Well done Eurogamer

Shit shit shit, should I do it now?

This is a dumb pressure tactic that I'm not going to cave into, thanks but no thanks.
You can always upgrade and then downgrade, that way you at least have a 10 key just in case. I thought I'd hate 10 but it's honestly pretty okay once you tweak it a bit.

How is it a pressure tactic? They clearly stated even before Windows 10 came out that you would only be able to upgrade for free for a year.

I bought two copies of Windows 8 for $40 each when it was new and got the free upgrades :v:

Why would you buy it when you could have bought a cheap windows7/8 and got a free upgrade :v:

because I could smell Microsoft's desperation. they've been trying for a while to shove this f****** OS down your goddamn throat
At least Windows 10 is better in every way than Windows 8 + 8.1.
In my usage cases it's objectively better than Windows 7 as well, especially so when their Linux subsystem finally releases.
I played around with 8&10 a little bit it was okay not really my thing I don't mind Microsoft saying hey you know we have a new OS how would you like to get on this shit!?
but when you force installs on my computer that actively advertise a product that's going too far, and usually has the opposite effect of pushing your customers away.
If you like 10 cool, if you love 8 sweet, but It's not a iPhone you do not need the newest greatest version every year. I most likely just wait to the next Windows comes out but I don't think I'm going to go for any less right now.
if Microsoft can't handle customers choosing what they want to do with on there Hardware then I guess their business model is Fucked. Because you can't stop a customer from customizing and tweaking software or Hardware or choosing which aspect of that software or Hardware they want to keep or lose.

Yeah it's like they set the timer to 31536000 seconds on your desktop and you've been really feeling that pressure. Those bastards!
I'ma stick with 7 until I absolutely have to switch. No problems at all with 7, and the pros of 10 don't matter enough for me to change, plus the chance of programs breaking with it. Not worth it right now imo.
Why would you want to stick with Windows 8.1 it's like Windows 10 with a shittier UI.
and selectable updates and not a botched injected metro interface on half of the applications and menus, 8.1 is bad enough

they kind of did with the whole Hardware upgrades. you have to have Windows 10 to be able to use a new CPU?
that's a course assuming that they could get manufacturers on board with that scheme which I doubt because that would severely cut into how much product you're selling.

I wonder what kind of software you're using that can't be updated or replaced. Games from up to 15 years ago were my concern but they seem to work as well as they did on 7, and older ones can be emulated.
Unless you really rely on some obscure programs that aren't updated anymore, w10 is a direct upgrade. Everything's just smoother and better.
Hardware incompatibility could be an issue if you're using ancient components and can't upgrade for some reason, I can understand that.
Finally, it was getting annoying having to close the Windows 10 upgrade notifications somewhat frequently. I only switch to the latest Windows OS when one of the following happens: 1. Both mainstream and extended support for my current PC's OS has stopped 2. My computer completely craps out on me (usually due to either computer crippling malware and/or hardware/software issues that are too much hassle to be worth it) and I have to get a new computer which obviously has the latest Windows OS installed by default. Most often it's because of reason number 2.
Microsoft is really desperate in trying to at least reduce the chance of another Windows XP situation happening with Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 (though if it does happen it would most likely be with Windows 7).
I still haven't gotten the notification for it. Hell the computers at my work have them but my own doesn't. :v:
That being said I am waiting to get an SSD, new power supply and the required cables to have another drive before doing a clean install on 10. Now I know my deadline because I am not dropping $200 on it.
No thanks, free Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Pro suits all my needs.

windows 8 keys are windows 10 keys
Bit too late now, my Laptop was forced to update while I was in the middle of coursework, the absolute ass holes.

It won't cost 200, it'll be $119 according to his own link. Just poor journalism.
Also that's the price for a standalone Windows 10 license, so it might be less for the upgrade. Assuming they don't continue offering it for free.
I've had weird UI hangs on 10 and the Update & Security button on the settings menu thing crashed the window. I think I had to use some command line thing to downgrade. I'll stick with 7 for now.
I would only upgrade to an Enterprise edition. I wish they just sold individual licenses instead of having me go through loops.

What?

They simply aren't going to support their old outdated OS. There is nothing stopping you from using Skylake with Windows 7 lol

What do you need that you don't get in the Pro edition?
Nah, still sticking with 8.1. I did actually try 10 once but went back to 8.1 because some of my older hardware and software I have just did not work properly with it, and on top of that I actually found it harder to use. And honestly, I do not get why people act like 8.1 is the worst thing, other than the start menu the UI is no different from 7.
