The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group has released more than 200 captives - mainly elderly and children belonging to the Yazidi community - held for eight months in captivity in the group’s stronghold, Mosul.
Hiwa Abdullah, a Peshmerga commander in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, where the handover of prisoners to Kurdish authorities took place on Wednesday, said that most of the 216 freed captives, including 40 children, were in poor health and bore signs of abuse and neglect.
Those released are being transferred to Erbil, the capital of the autonomous Kurdish region, to receive medical treatment and care.
No reason was given by ISIL for the release of the Yazidis who were first abducted from the northern town of Sinjar that was seized in August last year by the armed group. Thousands had fled the group’s offensive and hundreds of others were taken captive.
According to police sources, the releases aimed to remove the burden of having to provide food, shelter and medical care to the captives.
There were also unconfirmed reports that Yazidi tribal leaders, with the help of Arab tribal chiefs, paid ISIL money to help free their relatives.
They're only doing it because they know they can't kill them all without the people of Mosul getting upset
Either way now they're free, though their homes are gone and they probably will never be able to go back
Looks like the strain being put on DAESH is finally starting to cripple them with blocking supply lines and all that jazz, I'm very optimistic about the resolution of this whole situation.

They were paid for the captives, and they have no reason to keep them anymore after that. Otherwise it's a waste of resources to either keep them alive or kill them (especially since none of them can truly be considered infidels).
This does not make them any better or worse. They're still horrible.
At least they're still alive. Perhaps they have more stories to tell of what conditions are like in their prisons?
Why would this be rated with hearts?
"Aww, they're nice people now. <3"
Fuck that, they are just cowards that know they'd be in deep[er] shit if they killed them all.

More like rated with hearts because 200 yazidi's were released.
Don't Yazidis like worship the "Devil", demiurge of Islam? How come DAESH's Islam urges don't kick in in that front?
