The reason the crash is so realistic is because of the ground-up approach the company has taken to designing the simulations. “Actually it’s not about the crashes. The crash is a nice sight, but it’s about the behaviour of the vehicle itself,” says Thomas Fischer, head of research and development at BeamNG. Instead of a game designer changing values arbitrarily to create a desired vehicle behaviour, BeamNG applies basic engineering principles gleaned through its research into materials science. The results reflect a deep understanding of how materials move; that they also look amazing onscreen is the byproduct. At its most basic, the simulation engine is just a series of points, and information on the connection between those points. “Whatever you can build out of those points and connections, it’s possible to simulate,” Fischer says. “What we’re doing is we’re giving the guy that creates the vehicle the ability to create a physics skeleton.”
BBC Article BeamNG Dev Blog Substituted a more impressively produced video, but the video referenced in the article is viewable in the link. I know most people have heard of BeamNG, but it is cool to see real press coverage of the ground-breaking developments they've made in their work.
BeamNG is the best sim I have ever played to be honest, when I was clearing a ton of my favorite games off and being sad about it on my computer, BeamNG managed to stay.
CAR CRASH SIMULATOR 2015 I guarantee if this were to be released as one of those simulators it would outsell every one of them. I mean seriously, who wants to simulate farming? when you could just simulate crashing cars? Who doesn't like crashing cars???!?!
BeamNG is nice, but we need something in between BeamNG and NCG. It's too jellyish in NG.
Shoutout to Penis Colada
Shoutout to Penis Colada
Bet he's gonna take all the cars with triangles near the side mirrors and smash them to pieces. (can't blame him)
I wish the cars could tear in half and separate, similar to Rigs of Rods, but obviously much better than that.
It would be great if the next Burnout game had this.
I wish the cars could tear in half and separate, similar to Rigs of Rods, but obviously much better than that.
The functionality is there as far as I know. There's a WIP mod of a Toyota Chaser where the roof can be detached.
Imagine if BeamNG, Next Car Game, and Spin tires all combined into a single unified video game Not only would there be incredible vehicle destruction, but also terrain destruction/deformation I would pay $100 for that game (with single and multiplayer of course)

I wish there was more first person crashes, its interesting seeing how mangled an interior can get as well.
As a matter of fact, you CAN play this for several hours just smashing cars. If you start to get bored, do it in slow motion or mess around with the editors to create a surface with a negative density that makes the car go ludicrous speed
Imagine if BeamNG, Next Car Game, and Spin tires all combined into a single unified video game Not only would there be incredible vehicle destruction, but also terrain destruction/deformation I would pay $100 for that game (with single and multiplayer of course)
And Automation, so you could import insane custom engines!

Has this game improved at all? I played the demo when it launched last year but got abysmal performance. >25FPS at lowest possible settings performance.
Has this game improved at all? I played the demo when it launched last year but got abysmal performance. >25FPS at lowest possible settings performance.
In recent updates they changed physics calculations algorithms and made some changes that greatly affected the performance of the game. Textures now use proper LOD-changing, same with the tree models, the grass texture is replaced with a flat texture that looks roughly the same after a decent distance (rather than rendering it to the horizon, and the way shadows are handled has been changed to be a lot more efficient. They've added a completely new in-game UI which allows you to adjust the gravity scale to that of the various bodies in our solar system (ranging from Pluto to the Sun), as well as the ability to toggle various performance-impacting settings while the map is loaded. It really added quite a bit to the game, and the ability to tweak everything just makes it all that much more of a sandbox. There's nothing quite like trying to drive down a mountain road (or up) under 2-5x earth gravity and then switching it over to 'Jupiter' when you lose control to maximize the carnage, or going off of a ramp at moon-mars gravity (1/6-1/3) and then slowing down time and changing the gravity to 'sun' when you hit the apex of your trajectory. WebM Video of gravity changes in effect. Dev Blog about algorithm changes Overall, I've seen a 25-50% performance increase on my crap laptop.
The environment seems rather static; i'd like to see the trees get equally fucked up when a car goes flying into them, for example.

Bugbear encrypts their game files to stop modding, that's a developer I refuse to support.
"Actually its not about the crashes" ... cue 7 minute video of nothing but crashes.
I'd leave NCG out of that list. Bugbear encrypts their game files to stop modding, that's a developer I refuse to support.
excuse me http://www.moddb.com/mods/foj-community-mod i couldn't hear you over the sound of ~100 modded cars
I love games that give me the ability to wreck cars, but sometimes I wish to see the most deadliest of the crashes by seeing vehicles SLICE IN FUCKING HALF!
excuse me http://www.moddb.com/mods/foj-community-mod i couldn't hear you over the sound of ~100 modded cars
That's flatout 2 and that still doesn't mean bugbear support modding. They recently said they support modding which is a pile of shit because they still encrypt their game files. Any game can be modded, that's not the problem, I just refuse to support developers that try and make it difficult.

You said Bugbear doesn't support modding and I gave an example of a game made by them modded. And NCG is still in Early Access, ofcourse the files are encrypted. Otherwise you'd have a shitton of kids fucking around with their files and then submitting bugreports when it doesn't work. You can say they're a rubbish dev for not supporting modding when NCG is out of Early Access.
Probably the most impressive game running on the Torque engine. Glad to see they are receiving the attention they deserve.
You can mod any game, it doesn't mean they encourage it, I even said that in my last post. There's even a quote by them that they say they finally encourage modding, which implies they didn't before. I'm saying that's a load of shit because their files are encrypted. Your argument for encrypting game files is kids fucking around with them and submitting bug reports? What a piss poor argument. Who said they're a rubbish developer? I said I'm not going to support a developer that encrypts their game files to make it hard for people like me to make tools for them.
"We have decided to support modding as we recognize it’s a large part of why FlatOut is still known and played today. How exactly that’s going to work we don’t know yet, but the goal is to have user-created tracks and cars available, though Steam Workshop or otherwise. We’re likely not going to ship actual editors, but rather tools you can use to export models into the game."
I remember flying the concord jet back in RoR, if you flew too fast it eventually imploded on itself

It happens in other moddable games (i.e FNV,Elder Scrolls etc). People post threads ''help my game doesn't work'' etc etc and the cause was often a mod. Now imagine that happening to an early access game. The forum (if they have one? If not, wherever they handle crash reports and the like) would get flooded with ''game doesn't work i hab modz'' threads, potentially making the devs miss the actual crash reports. That's an actual point, not a piss poor argument. @your quote, notice the words ''we don't know yet'' ''goal'' etc. It's all for the future, and probably, you guessed it,when it's out of Early Access.
