Actually really interesting. You mate hate him for VGX and doritos/mountain dew but he addresses all of that. Doritogate talk at 23 mins
I respect him abit more learning his backstory from his POV. But still that explanation for Doritos incident was meh. Good he wants to expand the video game industry, but I don't think really talked about it directly and sort of side stepped it.

If its just product placement sitting behind him and that revenue can be used to support more journalism whats the problem?
There's a difference between "Well be right back after these messages" *cuts to commercials include some for MD and Duritos* And "I'm here to sell you halo and MD and duritos all in the same bit" Part of the reasons why "the game awards" are a joke is because they aren't fucking awards its all just one big advert. He talks about trying to bring in other brands to advertise so they don't have to advertise games, instead they're doing both. All in their shows no less, not even in dedicated commercial time. It feels disingenuous when the reporter is selling you anything. Granted they're basically always selling you the game, but he was selling "mlg gamer fuel" too. Instead of these things being in a commercial or something separate. Not to mention that Halo had a tie in with MD + duritios. He wasn't selling you two different things, he was selling you all the same thing. "Buy halo and this crap food for free xp in halo!!!"
I've never really hated or disliked Keighley. I've always loved his coverage of games and events, to be honest. This whole thing with Mountain Dew and Doritos is unfortunate.
His explanation sounds like shit. If he really wants game journalism to be funded by product placement he should take a look at Michael Bay's films

The game gets promotion by being promoted all across the country in stores to a huge audience. Doritos/Dew gets promotion by being purchased by gamers who want double experience.
That's a pretty cheap answer to me He made it sound like he was trying to make Video games more legitimate somehow by bringing in other types of advertisement, when really it just did the opposite. Can't see that anything more than lack of integrity to be honest.

Atleast he apologized. It is refreshing he actually has motivations and personal thoughts. On the other hand, he is literally the driving force that pushes the aspects of gaming I now hate.
He talks about separating reviews and ads like church and state but he wasn't really doing a great job at it. The advertisement itself was directly embedded in the review.
Good for him, great that he gets an open carte blanche to set the record straight yippee fucking skippee. Meanwhile he just smeared millions of gamers by towing the party "journalist" line at Blizz. Fuck him. See journalism, the first rule of journalism is "arrive at the truth and then display it unadorned, unenamored and untarnished". The first fucking rule. He can't follow the first fucking rule, you know the one they teach you in junior high. All I see is Geoff wants to expand Geoff's marketshare in a rapidly shifting paradigm where people like Geoff aren't important anymore. Anyone can go onto a streaming site and judge for themselves what merits a game contains, even publishers are finally starting to figure this out, and that model doesn't need a carnival barker giving you a guided tour, unless you're one of those special people that needs someone to help you tie your shoe laces and tell you when to go to the bathroom. Sure there will always be people whom are lazy or just not invested enough who want a "helping hand" in making their decisions, or people whom are just on the fence on where to spend their money; and for those people, there will be people who are more than happy to have their opinions considered paramount or deciding. Those people aren't going to be journalists, they're going to be regular gamers with video congeniality and smart videos. So good on him for seeing the writing on the wall, too bad he had to go slot himself with a bunch of reactionary political fucktards.
Does anyone actually hate him? I always thought it was just kinda funny and that picture of him was hilarious fuck but I don't have anything personal against the dude [editline]24th January 2015[/editline] Apparently I didn't read the post above me
Does anyone actually hate him?
The sort of people who get legitimately frothing mad when someone disagrees with their opinion regarding glorified toys do. So, you know, healthy individuals.
