A lightning strike at a primary school in western Uganda killed 18 students and injured 50, Ugandan police said on Wednesday.
Lightning on Tuesday hit Runyanya primary school in Kiryandongo district, about 225 kilometres (135 miles) northwest of Kampala, killing 15 girls and three boys, police spokeswoman Judith Nabakooba told AFP.
"The injured were taken to hospital nearby and 15 of those who were seriously injured were transferred to Mulago hospital," in Kampala, Nabakooba said.
Local media reported that a further 21 pupils were burned Tuesday after lightning struck at a second school in Zombo district, around 380 kilometres north of Kampala. Police could not confirm the incident.
Nabakooba could not provide an exact figure for the total number killed by lightning in recent weeks, but local newspaper The Daily Monitor reported Wednesday a total of 28 killed and scores injured in the past week, including Tuesday's incidents.
Uganda is experiencing unseasonably heavy rainstorms and concern about the number of recent lightning strikes has prompted lawmakers to demand an official explanation from government.
You know, it's getting really annoying that people are finding it more and more hard to read. They're fucking words that you absorb into your brain to understand the context and information behind the story. A headline ain't a story.

Oh okay, so maybe I read that bit and still didn't understand.
"Burned" is real helpful. Does it mean they were killed in a fire at the school caused by a lightning strike? If so, why the fuck does it say the lightning strike killed them?
A lightning strike at a primary school in western Uganda killed 18 students
If not, the alternative is that one lightning strike killed 18 people by hitting them directly, causing broken bones and burns, which is what the article makes it sound like and is harder to imagine.

Please for god's sake don't assume I didn't read the article because I fucking did
Well lightning can't burn 21 people at once so the building was ignited and burned with them in it basically

delicious crispy uganda children

Well, fair enough I guess. It's just the article trying to make it sound like something ridiculous like that could happen. The title of the article wouldn't have been as attention-grabbing if it said something reasonable like "18 children killed in Uganda in school fire caused by lightning strike".
