The Rocky star has revealed he needed emergency surgery and a metal plate inserted in his neck after the accident on the set of The Expendables. The 63-year-old told FHM magazine: "Man, it was seven guys, kicking each other's ass, one guy tougher than the next. No joke, our stunt guys were begging for mercy. "Actually, my fight with 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin was so vicious that I ended up getting a hairline fracture in my neck. I'm not joking. "I haven't told anyone this, but I had to have a very serious operation afterwards. I now have a metal plate in my neck." The upcoming movie centers on a gang of mercenaries on their way to destroy a foreign dictator and has action fans salivating. It features some of the biggest names of the genre - including Arnold Schwarzenegger, 62, Bruce Willis, 54, Dolph Lundgren, 52, Mickey Rourke, 57, Jet Li, 46, and Jason Statham, 37. It also stars Brittany Murphy, who died in December of a heart attack. Stallone, who wrote the script and directed the film, said the cast took the stunts to the absolute limit. "Man, those guys were up for it. They got out of bed at 5.30am just to shoot a small five-minute scene," he told the magazine. Stallone has experience in getting hurt during filming - having almost died while making Rocky IV. He said: "Dolph (Lundgren) and I always went for it. I gave him orders to try to knock me out while the cameras were rolling. "At one point, he hit me so hard on the head I felt my spine compress. "He then hit me with an almighty uppercut. That night my chest started to swell, and I had to be helicopter-ambulanced from my hotel to a nearby emergency room. "I was told that Dolph had punched my rib cage into my chest, compressing my heart. If it had swollen any more, I would have died. "After that, I was like, 'Dolph, it's only a movie, bro'."
Can't think of too many actors that put this much into a movie.
STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN!!! That's a name I haven't heard in a while... What a bad ass in the WWF! WHAT!!
he is a true bad ass.
Jesus Christ, I thought he was paralyzed. Don't scare me like that. :(
If Stallone died we might as well never make an action movie ever again.
Holy shit. Arnold, Sylvester and stone cold, all in one movie? Oh my god. This is sounding like the most epic movie of the decade.
"I haven't told anyone this, but I had to have a very serious operation afterwards. I now have a metal plate in my neck."
He didn't tell anyone? What?
He didn't tell anyone? What?
As in he didn't go around to all the news reporters saying it, and he kept it from friends and family so they didn't worry. The cast and crew probably knew seeing they were there.
I wonder if he will leave it in the film.
I don't care about Steve Austin, but holy fuck, Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Willis, Li and Statham in the same movie.

Stallone and Schwarzenegger should have done a movie together in the '80s. Either a buddy cop or a renegade soldier movie. Better late than never, action movies of the '80s were the best
Almost another celebrity death in '09.
Almost another celebrity death in '09.
It's 2010, you can hang your coat over there.

Just reading the cast list... makes me a little giddy.
Oh my fuckin god. bruce willis, jet li, and jason statham.
Don't worry he'll snap it right back in place himself, he's Silvester Stallone.
Where is fucking Van damne ? And Chuck Norris ?
Arnold, what're you doing in this movie? Get back to running my damned state into the ground.
Arnold, what're you doing in this movie? Get back to running my damned state into the ground.
No. It's less important.
Well, I guess... He's not very expendable. YEAAAAAAAAAAAAH Seriously though, what a production. Lots of big stars working together.
IFFF YAAA SMEEEEELLLL WHAAAATTT THEE RO-... Oh wait... NOW THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE, CAUSE STONE COLD SAID SO! NOW, GIMME A HELL YAH!
Hell yeah. *slaps beers together*
Dolph Lundgren is a badass.
They added bruce willis and schwarzy later, the plot is going to be fucking random.
Jesus. This is probably going to be the best action movie ever. Hard to believe most of those actors are in their sixties.
Don't worry he'll snap it right back in place himself, he's Silvester Stallone.
Stallone doesn't do that, you're thinking of Steven Seagall!
Arnold, what're you doing in this movie? Get back to running my damned state into the ground.
No-one cares about California anymore.
Only rambo can break his own neck.
whobaomahnehithurcaldoc That's Stallonese for: "Whoa, I broke my neck, it hurts, call a doctor"
