"We are making the difficult changes necessary to strengthen BlackBerry."

In its letter, the firm says that the restructuring will help cut it costs by 50%. It also emphasises the fact that it has "substantial cash on hand and a balance sheet that is debt free".
Lets see if Blackberry can save themselves from their downwards spiral.
Their refusal to use Android was a huge mistake.
is there any big differences using BlackBerry OS over Android and iOS?
is there any big differences using BlackBerry OS over Android and iOS?
It's much more secure, which is the main advantage of it. Which is why they fucked up moving away from the business crowd.
is there any big differences using BlackBerry OS over Android and iOS?
Its arguably far more secure for a business environment.
unless you enjoy nonsensical UX decisions, not really
Its arguably far more secure for a business environment.
At Lockheed Martin we could only use a Blackberry for internal mail outside the office, besides a buisness laptop.
unless you enjoy nonsensical UX decisions, not really
What are those decisions? Make some small quip at them doesn't change the fact that apparently its a secure OS.
Their refusal to use Android was a huge mistake.
Why? So Samsung could jump up and down on them with their cheaply built tacky crap? HTC arguably builds better gear and is still getting thrashed by them.
What would the military and their contractors use in the event that Blackberry doesn't manage to make it out of its death spiral? Are there alternatives to the services that Blackberry provides that are just as secure as they say it is?
Blackberry sell phones.
Why? So Samsung could jump up and down on them with their cheaply built tacky crap? HTC arguably builds better gear and is still getting thrashed by them.
I would not call Samsung's stuff "cheaply built tacky crap." My galaxy note 2 is extremely durable, runs apps very quickly and has a really long battery life. My girlfriend used to have a blackberry and that thing was a cheaply built piece of shit. If you're referring to Samsung's lower end models then actually call them that and don't encompass all of Samsung to your preconceptions. I know the Stratosphere and others aren't great but they're made for people who aren't looking for the most powerful, most expensive phone they can get their hands on.
I have their brand new Q10 at the moment and I've got to say I'm happy enough with it.

Nothing says premium & well built like gold coloured plastic and fake metallic textures on your fingerprint magnet cheap plastic. Not to mention the wonky home button on the Note 3, and their tablets that creak in your hands. [editline]15th October 2013[/editline] Also they cheap out on their displays every opportunity they get, Pentile is NOT okay in 2013. And the colour calibration couldn't be any more off, the saturation has been blown out the wazzoo to stop the panels looking dim. [editline]15th October 2013[/editline] And to top it all off, Touchwiz makes it look even more like a cheap toy.

I think most Android phone developers are obsessing over specs rather than the experience and package, and it really shows.
Their refusal to use Android was a huge mistake.
It's certainly the only thing that could save them now. Unless a wicked amount of dosh was given to them so they had capital to bounce back, but that would still require a clear and solid product direction
I remember one time when I played with a friend's BlackBerry I accidentally wiped it twice because the keyboard was shit and it required a password :v:
It's much more secure, which is the main advantage of it. Which is why they fucked up moving away from the business crowd.
They also stopped focusing on having physical keyboards which was about the only thing I liked about them. So, so much nicer to use than a touchscreen keyboard. [editline]15th October 2013[/editline] even if they are tiny, they somehow still work okay.

Started out with a cheapo slider phone, worked great and had no issues. Eventually i upgraded to a cheapo Samsung touch screen that didnt have android. That phone was okay, i had issues with sim cards so i didnt use it long. I then bought a Galaxy Precedent. That phone amazed me. It was the first real smartphone i had. Used it for two years, with zero issues. Decided to buy a Galaxy S2 959g. This phone blew me away. The camera is better than my real camera, its very quick compared to any other phone ive used. The touch screen works great. I can tell you, from experience, that if the phone is a 'fingerprint magnet' you need to wash your hands and stop being gross. Ive never had a fingerprint issue when my hands are clean. If i go out, work, sweat, then use my phone; itll get some fingerprints. The Precedent and S2 screens arent saturated at all, when i take a picture and look at it, it reproduces colors perfectly. The cheapo phone i had was saturated quite a bit. My S2 and the Precedent dont even have TouchWiz. The cheapo one had TouchWiz, but i disabled it. Neither phones creak in stock form. I bought a second non-oem back for my S2, because i know over time itll get scratched and i want to keep my phone in good shape. That cheap, non-oem cover does creak

I think most Android phone developers are obsessing over specs rather than the experience and package, and it really shows.
I think HTC should bring back the Hero model my first ever smartphone was the HTC Hero, oh fucking man that was a nice piece of hardware, that trackball man [editline]15th October 2013[/editline] as someone who's been rocking the S3 for a year or so now, I'm gonna be one to say that they are not very well built they're good for what they need to do, sure, but they're not gonna survive many falls without a case. The droid X line was a really nice set of phones though, I had the X2 and it was like strong plastic with a metal backing. Isn't the HTC one aluminum or something? [editline]15th October 2013[/editline]
It's certainly the only thing that could save them now. Unless a wicked amount of dosh was given to them so they had capital to bounce back, but that would still require a clear and solid product direction
If they went back to focusing on the 'corporate employee' demographic, they'd start raking in good cash again.
Htc build quality is amazing. Only issue is the aluminum cases conduct a shitload of heat, so htcs feel like toasters. Prolly better than all that heat being under cheap plastic though Blackberry just made some really shit desicions and they're paying the consequences. Not making a touchscreen only phone till 2013 was the worst business move ever. I couldn't use blackberries because my thumbs were too wide
"These are no doubt challenging times for us and we don't underestimate the situation or ignore the challenges," the letter says. "We are making the difficult changes necessary to strengthen BlackBerry."
Like going to the gym

Prolly better than all that heat being under cheap plastic though
Found my one mini does get very hot but it's not overheating. It'll keep running nice and fast despite the temperature, their battery life is shit though. BBOS10 is actually quite nice and the phones that use it are made well and generally pretty reliable but the Blackberry brand has too high a stigma after a rake of shit phones. Anything made by that company before OS10 was a nightmare to tech support, if you ever see a BB Curve, you know it has problems that'll take you ages to fix.
