He's piss easy to use as a poster child who's a antisocial pasty white nerd, and that doesn't make it easier to sell the idea of FOSS to the average Joe.
And in contrast to Torvalds, Stallman doesn't do any "physical" work.
Torvalds at-least can be excused since he's the lead maintainer of one of the most used kernel.
