Soon they’ll begin setting their sights on criminals within our borders. And they’ll be packing heat, not the long-range missiles of the X-47B, but with up close and personal stun guns, 12-gauge shotguns and, believe it or not, grenade launchers. The ShadowHawk is the seven-foot, 50-lb copter that is the toy-sized dealer of destruction from Texas-based Vanguard Defense Industries. The copter is the result of three years of development. If being tased from above sounds frightening to you, I suggest you cease all criminal activities now (simply staying indoors is an option). There’s a good chance ShadowHawk’s spine tingling buzz could be heard approaching a city near you. As a sign of new law enforcement tactics to come, the Sheriff’s Office of Montgomery County, Texas was recently awarded a grant by the Department of Homeland Security for a squadron of ShadowHawks. Montgomery County’s Chief Deputy Randy McDaniel is psyched. “We are very excited about the funding and looking forward to placing the equipment into the field. Both my narcotics and SWAT units have been looking at numerous ways to deploy it and I absolutely believe it will become a critical component on all SWAT callouts and narcotics raids and emergency management operations.” The Department of Homeland Security grant is just the latest indication that the US is taking the military’s lead – with over 7,000 drones in the skies of Iraq and Afghanistan – and using drones as a key tactical tool. In 2009 a surveillance drone called the Wasp was used during a SWAT raid in Austin, Texas. The Wasp climbed to 400 feet and beamed realtime video of a house in which an armed drug dealer was hiding. After the team had confirmed that there were no unforeseen dangers lurking in the backyard, they stormed the house and arrested the suspect. Drones are also helping the US to secure its borders against illegal immigration and drug trafficking. Just a few months ago the Obama administration began sending drones to Mexico to gather intelligence and help in the country’s war on drugs.

That's creepy.
no, you're creepy this is cutting edge police technology, and it is awesome
Just wait until somebody finds the frequency it listens to and takes control
I picture a whole fleet of them being used for crowd control with Ride of the Valkyries in the background.
... Grenade launchers? Really?
Probably Tear Gas and the like.
no, you're creepy this is cutting edge police technology, and it is awesome
personally if i saw a miniature helicopter flying around my neighborhood i would get my pellet gun and take it down
personally if i saw a miniature helicopter flying around my neighborhood i would get my pellet gun and take it down
And then suddenly more.
Probably Tear Gas and the like.
Oooooh. Yeah, it's now awesome.
And then suddenly more.
And then suddenly reload
personally if i saw a miniature helicopter flying around my neighborhood i would get my pellet gun and take it down
that would be so much cooler than just looking at it
This could be a good thing that turns into a bad thing. Instead of police harassing you for just walking by them for dressing a certain way, they stun you and tell everyone they looked threatening with that cell phone in their hand or it was a malfunction
This will not end well.
... Grenade launchers? Really?
More or less for riot suppression or something. This can provide police and special tactics units huge benefits. They can engage targets, do surveillance, and get in places that helicopters and all that can't get in to normally. I mean it might be expensive to start off with buying a fleet of them, but look at it this way. How much money does it cost to build a real helicopter, how much does it cost to hire a pilot to fly it, how much does it cost to run and maintain a real helicopter, most importantly how much does it cost to equip a helicopter with expensive optics and other gadgets. Ultimately this may prove to be a cheaper alternative for certain tasks.
They've found our greatest weakness! Rocks.
Sweet fuck, this is like something out of a goddamn Orwellian novel!
Even "Vanguard Defense Industries" sounds like it's a weapons developer out of Robocop.

Imagine seeing this thing fly towards you I'd shit myself
Somehow a taser seems rather unnecessary on a helicopter. It's like attaching a machete to the front of a jet plane.
You guys are so paranoid.
It begins.
We need some thread music for this shit. But what goes with a small helicopter with a shotgun and grenade launchers? I'M ON THE CASE!
All you have to do to take it down is piff a couple of heavy stones at it?
Fuck yeah. That's all.
