'Illegal' immigrant begs to be kicked out of the UK after handing himself in at police station
An Iranian migrant walked into a police station and demanded to be deported – because he’d ‘had enough’ of Manchester.
Arash Aria, 25, said he was desperate to leave because of the ‘rudeness and violence’ in the city.
Handing himself in at a police station, he told officers he had been in the UK illegally for ten years. But he was released two hours later after immigration officials found he had indefinite leave to be in the UK.
I wonder how many migrants will become disillusioned with their new found lands.
Dude was there for ten years, somehow I doubt people running for there lives will be less picky.
Not surprised I'd be the same in Manchester, I had enough after 1 year :v: he's right about the rudeness and violence though it's pretty intimidating sometimes
The UK isn't Manchester. The guys is being a drama queen.
Is Manchester that bad?

I think the rudeness and violence as associated with him being an immigrant rather than him simply being in manchester.
Talk to people about longsight. In many cases the first response will be "fulla _____" or "huh spot the white" or "crime" or "rape central". Some of those things might be true but its not because the colour of skin or religion, its because of lack of integration, appreciation and investment.
Similar with levensulme, rusholme, ardwick or moss side.
Bad rep -> bad attitude -> bad actions -> bad rep
Its negative feedback.
Could have been worse, could have been Liverpool.

Chicken and Egg, they don't integrate because we treat them with disdain or we treat them with disdain because they don't integrate?
In my experience at work in new build housing there are lots of eastern europeans, they have managed to integrate just fine.
In my experience where I live (Hertfordshire) and not some a mate told me bullshit, I have Bangladeshi neighbours. They are very aloof and non-social. The Parents who are in their 60's cannot or will not speak English?
They have been my neighbours for 12 years by the way and I do not know one of their names.
It's not skin colour, it's cultural difference.
Fromb my limited experience manchester as a whole isn't that bad he probably wants flying back to join isis

We have the same problem here in 'murica. A lot of people who have been here for over 5/10+ years will refuse to speak or learn english and now we have job sites that require you to know Spanish and its like, WHY? This is America?? Learn english... Americans don't go to China and expect people to know and learn their Language. Its CHINA.
I had an Australian woman come to my store yesterday and I was helping her out at the register, and this spanish woman who didnt know ANY english, but seemed to know where she was and basically wasn't confused about anything else than English was asking me things and she literally knew no English and I was wondering how she even knew how to get to this exact store?
Anyways, the Australian woman started getting upset saying this was America and that you should know the language or get the hell out. I digress..

I'd say the reason Spanish is taught is more so because our Central and South American trading partners are huge traders with us.

My neighbour has never done a days work since he has been here, obviously had no intentions to either.
But you will not integrate in any way without learning the language, again he has no intention to.

Unlike China, which has also has a large variety of languages and dialects btw, America is not a homogeneous society and never has been. Throughout most of our history it's been the case that new immigrants did not learn the language. In the 1860-80s, most German and Chinese immigrants couldn't speak English and it would be at least one generation down the line before most would know English. In the 1890s-1910s it was rare for Italians, Russians, Lithuanians, or Poles to know much English beyond simple trade dialogues until a couple generations down the line. Most first generation Japanese immigrants never learned English in the 1910s-1940s. While some Mexican immigrants brought in in the 40s knew English, it wasn't a large number of them. America has no official language and it's rare that first generation migrants ever learn the language fluently, if at all, in our history. The reason why we're teaching English speakers Spanish is because the large influx of migrants in the 90s-early 2000s specifically didn't know the language, there was no way to teach it to them en masse, and yet we can't reasonably handle the situation at all without some overlap in the language. The vaaaast majority of second generation latino immigrants know English, which is a large increase when considering the past situation. The whole "learn the language" thing is ridiculous and completely shallow and more often then not is just part of right-wing buzz topics to further cement xenophobia. "Hurr durr people from somewhere else who are here now dont speak the same words as me! rabble rabble what dis world comin to?" Fact of the matter is that there are 11 million latino immigrants in the US today an 46 million hispanics. The majority of them speak spanish, either alongside english or on its own. Does it seriously make sense to you that 20% of our population be alienated for the comfort of some native speakers? In areas where there are high numbers of spanish speaker it only makes sense to get everyone on the same page linguistically.

What's the excuse in the UK where they are a minority and we traditionally have only had 1 language?

Well the difference is that America does not have a main language set as far as I know, while I'm pretty sure England has English set as theirs.

UK 1 language? No? Go to wales or scotland or northern ireland.
Even regional dialects are different. Most southerners won't know what a bairn is. Lots would have trouble understanding a geordie. This division is probably due to immigration over time. 100 years ago there would have been greater difference between areas it is said in my area (glossop area) people could tell which village you were from by your accent. Even with this london had a huge immigrant population with chinese or jewish diaspora being especially well known.
Even now if you go to china town in manchester, theres an internet/gaming cafe with a bakery attached, the lady who serves the bakery doesn't speak any english.
I agree that people should learn english to integrate but easy learn it they have to have a want and need to learn it, for a want and need to learn it they require a need to integrate into the larger society without being pushed away or not being unwelcome because of their creed or colour.
I don't think that people should be forced to learn a language, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to promote educational facilities that encourage becoming fluent in the tongue.
English, for better or worse, is an international language these days, and it makes a major difference for people who know English - it opens up a lot more opportunities.
UK 1 language? No? Go to wales or scotland or northern ireland.
The Gaelic language is on the verge of extinction in Scotland, while the vast majority of Irish people and Welsh people are incapable of speaking it in.
As for English, there aren't any speakers of Celtic languages who don't also speak English.

And that's been a tremendous problem since we became a country that we've never bothered to fix, and it's not getting better fast enough.

You don't understand how society works. This isn't just about "comfort", alienation doesn't matter, and just in terms of demographics English is dominant, always has been dominant, and will probably continue to be dominant not just nationally but internationally as well (it's the most widely-spoken and understood language in existence actually).
The fact is the majority of people here in this country speak English as their main language either because they were born here and are native English-speakers, or because they learned it originally as a secondary language but now know that it's required for them to use as their primary language in order to, you know, actually stay alive and function as productive members of society (assuming they don't live like isolationists amongst their own people in their own distinct communities, which presents problems as well).
[t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/43/Tree_map_of_languages_in_the_United_States.png[/t]
In addition, it's the language that our government uses for literally everything. Our government officials speak English, our institutions and bureaus speak English, our laws are written in English and discussed in Congress in English... our founding documents are written in English. I'm not sure how to hammer this into people's heads any harder: this is an English-speaking country, it has always been an English-speaking country, it will remain an English-speaking country for the foreseeable future. Saying that "well there's always been enclaves of non-English speakers living here historically anyway" as if it somehow invalidates these facts actually doesn't invalidate anything; actually, all it does it highlight the importance of having an overwhelmingly homogeneous society where everyone (or at least most everyone) can understand everyone else because everyone shares a common language amongst them to conduct business transactions in, to interact socially with each other, to help in times of crisis and with emergencies, etc.
I'm not suggesting that it absolutely has to be a prerequisite for you to speak it in order to immigrate here, but it absolutely must be encouraged for immigrants to learn it, and there have to be standards set in order to make people eventually learn to speak it and not just break off and huddle into their own little distinct groups and not assimilate amongst the rest of us. Your "America is about and has always had diversity" argument? It's bullshit. It's this simple: you cannot function as well as you should be here if you don't understand the native language of this country and its people-- English. You are more likely then segregate yourselves from the rest of us, and while this isn't a problem when a select few individuals do it, it becomes a problem when you've got entire communities consisting of thousands upon thousands of people doing it. Which is exactly what you'll find in, for example, the American Southwest with people who only speak Spanish/are of Hispanic origin.
And no, on your last part, that doesn't make sense; people need to be on the same page everywhere eventually when it comes to language. I can't stress this enough: it's incredibly fucking important that almost everyone is able to understand everyone else, that we don't ever try to cater to a dubious minority's whims, and that we establish distinctly how our country functions and what is expected of people who live here. It's just basic common sense. No, this issue isn't exactly running us into the ground, but it is certainly harming us and holding us back from what we could amount to. How can you expect to maximize functionality when you've got a significant minority who can't even understand what others are saying to them?
Maybe he ought to move to Devon, nice place that

You are being contrary. All of the above are English speakers regardless of their Gaelic, Celtic or Welsh.
Accents have nothing to with it, all countries have accents and local slang.
As an extensive traveller I have met a lot of Ex-Pats and I would say every one of them had a grasp of the basic local language if not fluent. This is because the very nature of our culture teaches us diversity and tolerance of other cultures. We try to become a part of the community that we live in when we move there. Again this is because we have realised that the place we have chosen is a better place than that which we came from.
It only seems to be certain people from certain religious backgrounds that choose not to integrate whilst relocating, hence why they feel no need to learn the local language because they feel no need to actually integrate.
Personally I have no problem with Migrants who come to England for a better life for themselves and their families as long as they are willing to integrate and not try and change our laws and cultures, we seem to bend over backwards not to offend them whilst they flatly refuse to accept anything out of their culture/religion.
I'd say the reason Spanish is taught is more so because our Central and South American trading partners are huge traders with us.
lol, no offense but I think it has more to do with the massive amounts of Spanish speaking immigrants, not trade connections.
