Online courses and classes? Would it be wise/where can I find them?

I wanted to take some courses, ever since I took my economics course in high school that is something I want to pursue more. I don't want a degree, I want personal enlightenment and growth. I also don't want to bog myself down with more classes at a community college. I want something respectable and feasible, at lowest cost to me.
Does this seem like a good idea to you guys? Also, are there any online colleges where I can simply take courses without going on a plan where I have to get some form of degree or certification?
I think it would be good to take the basics there but you should go somewhere else after that.

Go to a community college, it's a much better option. I've done classes with the American School of Correspondence, which was an absolute joke, and the K12 program, which was a shit ton of work for little increase in knowledge. Comm. college is great because often times you can find pretty good teachers and you won't feel left behind by the rest of your class if you're a smart guy/interested in the subject. Also you get college credit for comm. college which means you can save money when you go to your 4 year college, since you won't have to take Econ 101 for ten times the price.

The psychology lectures by Jeremy Wolfe are absolutely excellent. Check out the entire iTunes U program, actually. Thousands of top level university lectures for free. This is probably the best option if you don't mind missing out on class discussion and credit.
i dont know how far i actually want to go though
i of course dont want a doctorate, i dont even know if i want an associates, i just want to understand how things work to some extent
thats why i was hoping for suggestions, i want a school that will just take my money for a few courses instead of trying to get me a degree

true, i want some form of credit that shows i know the shit that could transfer back to other schools in case i eventually want to pursue my masters in music composition/theory
but like i said my schedule can be tight enough at times and physically showing up to another class would add a lot of burden
