I still believe that the film was merely a scapegoat to the true reason this attack started. This all well planned...I mean seriously, four days, and already we got riots in 10 countries! Either the people are easily enraged by things, or something or someone thought of this days ahead...especially since this all started around 9/11...ironically.
At least the protests in Qatar are peaceful.
Holy shit that's a lot of rioting.
All of this chaos and destruction over a video, it's simply absurd. Should these be called protests anymore? Protesting the video's message I can understand, but all of this "Death to America" stuff? That's more in line with a tantrum than a justified protest. It's not as though every single American got together to make the damn thing. It was just one man. One incredibly foolish man. Where is the reason?

I wouldn't be surprised. For once, I really think there is something far deeper going on here.
It's not just over the film, although that may have been what sparked the protests. There is anti-Western sentiment in all of the countries that rioted, and even though some of these countries are post-revolution with US and Western support, that doesn't mean the West didn't support the old regime as well.

Pfft, they're just silly Arabs! Surely if we threw an airstrike or a drove against the government they're winningly revolting against, they won't remember us propping up that government to begin with!
Libyan government source says that Ansar Al-Sharia, the militia believed to be responsible for the Libyan consulate raid, is going to be shut the fuck down, by force if necessary
Hopefully, along with the upcoming weapons collection initiative, this may be the start of the government restoring law and order throughout Libya. The new government will help too. The interim administration was unelected, so they couldn't really justify shutting down the miltias, because they had no more of a right to exist than the militias did. Now that the government is elected, it is legitimate and has a clear mandate to restore order

Have you considered that these people are unleashing anger that has grown from more than just insulting videos? Perhaps occupation and dehumanisation has something to do with it?

yeah it's totally insane to think the middle east would get mad at someone insulting islam, it's usually such a quiet and open-minded place of peace
So much blind hate, they act like its a movie published by the white house.
Also this German embassy raid in Sudan was ridiculous, its like they got outta their houses once they heard about this movie and went to the closest western embassy and raided it.

Was listening to ABC news just a few moments ago and they had some interview with a protester. Asked him what "they wanted" and he angrily replied "for the US government and foreign governments to stop insulting us" so I would guess that at least a portion of them actually think it's by the US gov's behest. A very sad and deadly ignorance.
Yep, the protesters legitimately believe the American government is at fault. That's the sad state of ignorance there. I can understand protests, but like Libya, people are burning down things. But I agree with BananaFoam and others, I think this is a bit deeper than the film
Its only going to get worse from here.
And this is the film posted in a another thread that "apparently" started this all

Nooooo, I'm 90% sure the actual film is around 55 minutes long. I might be totally wrong though.
Well whoever made the video now can be proud that he managed to rage a good portion of the world.
basically, from what I've read, a bunch of stupid bigots are leading stupid violent riots on multiple embassies in the middle east over some stupid video on the internet made by some stupid bigot which was praised by another stupid bigot who burned q'urans just to get everyone all flustered.
so now americans are getting killed by mindlessly angry muslims who are carrying out an act of extreme irony over a video made in the ass-end of america that no one has ever heard of until now.
i mean, like, do people think when they do shit? or is it just assumed that being as mindlessly violent as possible will somehow make people come to your side?
and really? a terrible youtube video fired off, what could only really be considered, mass acts of terrorism by civilians and militia on? and on 9/11 no less? seriously? what a way to spit in someones eye.
i try to defend islam and other religions as much as possible, considering iv had an upbringing in christianity and i feel everyone has the right to believe in what they want, but its hard to fight for someones equality if all people see is islam being used as an incentive to get really mad about stupid shit and just destroy out of gut reaction. theres no respect, for fuck sake.
learn to take some punches, and shrug it off, extremists. not everything is an act that should be punished on all of a nation. in America, we call that "bigotry"
The problem is that in the Middle East, the countries are run by even more stupid bigots that are their elders who were taught by their elder and so on and so forth. And their "teachings" were just to be more intolerant and fuck education. It was already like the way it is before the Soviet invasion. Maybe not as bad, but it was pretty damn prevalent. And that's why the Middle East is not the center of knowledge anymore
Why is it that other religions can tolerate insults 100 times worse than this and do nothing, and yet some unknown video on the internet insulting islam can cause rioting in 10+ countries?
The amount of ignorance going on right now hurts my head.

He's actually in hiding right now :v:

Fuck, I can't understand how Muslims can be so offended by this that they start to kill people. There has to be more.
Funny thing is, if their religion truly is the one and Allah real, they're all going to rot in fucking hell.
Libya's Grand Mufti has issued a fatwa fucking slamming the shit out of the consulate attack and saying the Prophet Muhammad would be pissed. He also slammed the shit out of the government for having allowed the militias to exist for so long
[editline]15th September 2012[/editline]
Also, Facepunch's Grand Smurfy got a letter published in the Libya Herald!

The straw that broke the camal's back.
Just gonna quote this:
"These are people who were born and raised in dictatorships. They are accustomed to thinking that a government controls its citizens -- that a film or documentary cannot be produced without government approval. For decades, this has been the reality of their lives, and they strongly believe that the Western world and its citizens have a similarly controlling relationship between individuals and government."
