Following the official confirmation that Russian Eurovision entrant, Julia Samoylova, will not be permitted to travel to Kyiv to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, the EBU formally offered two alternative proposals to Channel One in a bid to find a solution that would enable Russia to continue their participation in this year’s event. "These proposals were to either take part via satellite or to change their chosen artist to one who could legally travel to Ukraine for the duration of the Contest. Sadly both proposals have been rejected by Channel One and they have now announced they do not intend to broadcast the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. Unfortunately this means Russia will no longer be able to take part in this year’s competition. We very much wanted all 43 countries to be able to participate and did all we could to achieve this," the EBU states. Frank Dieter Freiling, Chairman of the Eurovision Song Contest Reference Group, the event’s steering committee, said: "We strongly condemn the Ukrainian authorities' decision to impose a travel ban on Julia Samoylova as we believe it thoroughly undermines the integrity and non-political nature of the Eurovision Song Contest and its mission to bring all nations together in friendly competition. However, preparations continue apace for the Eurovision Song Contest in the host city Kyiv. Our top priority remains to produce a spectacular Eurovision Song Contest with our Member UA:PBC in May." Not sure what to think of this at all, other than this could have all been avoided... ... had Australia rightly won last year : ^ ) ... To be serious a second: again, not sure what to think. It's obvious as to why the Ukrainians wouldn't want her there - but I'm not sure if that makes it right.
What a load of bullshit. I know there's a war, and the Russian government probably pressured Samoylova to perform in Crimea just to trigger the Ukrainian government, but they can't overreact like this, it's just a song contest and it makes Ukraine as a whole look immature as fuck.
i stopped caring about eurovision the moment i realized its all just political voting and isnt really at all about who did best not that it would matter this year anyway since our entry is complete dogshit
Yeah I have a feeling that the UK will do even worse this year than they usually do
Ah yes, the singing show where the winner is elected by how many people from his/her country actually give a damn about the show.

It's long since become political, just like many other things like Olympics and so on. Luckily, not taking part in the event won't be such a massive hit for her сareer as it would be for a professional sportsman not allowed to attend the competition, so good riddance I guess.
Sorry it's actually half talent and half politics now, God get it right
No songs that are political they said Yet Ukraine won with a political song Eurovision is shit
No songs that are political they said Yet Ukraine won with a political song Eurovision is shit
I know you are bitter about last year... but I must admit you have every right to be. We should stop denying the truth and realise that Australia truly IS apart of Europe.
Oh no! WW3 is clearly imminent
Beats losing to a clearly inferior song because politics.
