I hate websites that dont allow hotlinking.

I'm sure we've all seen something where it just a bigass ''DON'T HOTLINK LULZ VISIT THE SITE'' Image where we thought we would post it.

Is there any reasoning behind it, or are they all just idiots?

well, OP, you should re-upload pictures instead of using their bandwith! my knowledge of computers is very limited but anyone should be able to put two and two together and realize putting an image from one place in another place wastes the original host's bandwith

What I don't understand is why all the "NO HOTLINK PLZ" pictures are so huge. If you want to save your bandwidth when you notice a hotlinker, you should really make it a smaller picture with a notification.

Depends, it could be hosted on a site like photobucket, or a smaller filesize.
