Instead of the traditional conversation, James Tate chose to tape the message "Sonali Rodgrigues, will you go to prom with me?" outside the main entrance of the school, which put him in hot water with the administration. He and the two friends who helped him tape up the letters have been given a one-day in-house suspension by headmaster Beth Smith, and barred from the prom. However, there is an outpouring of support for Tate. A Facebook page "Let James Tate Go to the Prom" already has more than 400 members, with people commenting that not allowing him to go to prom is a "suppression of creativity." "Asking a girl to prom in a very creative way is NOT a reason to ban him from prom," writes Pattie Cerbone Tencza. No word yet whether the school administration will reverse their decision.
Sources: http://shelton.patch.com/articles/he-scored-a-date-but-will-he-be-allowed-to-attend-prom http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/conn-teenager-who-posted-at-school-entrance-message-seeking-girl-as-prom-date-gets-barred/2011/05/10/AF1Zg1jG_story.html Fucking eggheads. Who constitutes cardboard and tape as tresspassing? Kids get away with a hell of a lot more at my school.
Where is the facebook page? I want to join it.
who cares?

Joined. The message is easily removable, I don't see the problem in this. I think the principal got a little too power happy.
I don't care how dumb it is, prom is a once-in-a-lifetime thing and to have it revoked because of some fucking cardboard letters is absolutely ridiculous. I wonder how the Principal feels going to sleep at night knowing thousands of people hate her?
Did he seriously put HMU at the end?

Yeah it's a bit overkill, he should be allowed to go to prom, but doing this costs the school in supplies and work to get it down, and could have potentially cost the school a lot more if the kid had fallen or something and severely hurt himself, raising the liability costs for the school or even possibly suing them. It's a safety and cost issue, the suspension serves as a lesson to him and others not to do something like that. e: Really? 16 dumbs? Would anyone like to point out what's so wrong with my argument?
it's a bitch to clean shit like that up but not really a reason to suspend the kid ffs the reason they suspended him is so they don't have a bunch of chucklefucks doing the same thing and suddenly the school is covered
Relating to the ease of removal, I once got suspended in 8th for putting Crayola Tempura paint on a brick wall. for a week and they didn't let me walk across the stage at the highschool i was going to.
What the fuck? I've seen I think two cases where the staff actually helped students with this kind of stuff at my highschool.
Shoulda just given him detention. Barring him from prom is extreme overkill.
WELL THIS IS A STICKY SITUATION HAHAHA

I don't understand this at all.
WELL THIS IS A STICKY SITUATION HAHAHA
Well that was a dumb post hahaha
Did she say yes?

On the bright side, if she was going to say no, she no longer has to let him down.
prom is a once-in-a-lifetime thing
If you live anywhere that there are people there's probably a social going on at some point in the near future somewhere. But I agree, let the kid go to the damn thing
Make him clean it off the wall, don't go all crazy on him..!
Schools really need to reevaluate their punishment priorities. "You asked someone out to prom by putting tape on a brick wall? You're suspended and barred from going to prom!" "You raped a girl? Well, you're on the basketball team, so we'll let it slide." "You didn't cheer for your rapist? That is crossing the line!"

The gyst of mine were a bunch of chapperone parents hanging out in the "garden" area (read: the school lobby they decorated that only had a punch fountain and some random nuts for snacks), and the gym which had a god awful DJ that was playing terrible Solja Boy style music the whole time instead of actually playing prom/dance music. Not to mention he couldn't mix songs worth shit. If you wanted you could get your picture taken in the music room or step outside through the gym doors for some air. Was pretty terrible. Anyways, it's retarded that the school suspended him for this. But at the same time it's an incredibly cheesy way to ask someone to prom. I mean jesus, it is set up like a marriage proposal yet he's just asking her to prom.
My prom (we don't call them that here but for the purpose of making this easy...) was tropical themed. They rented hot tubs. One of the prizes they gave out was a gift basket with soaps and shampoos. Uh oh

The court found the guy innocent of rape, and her case was thrown out of TWO courts after she was kicked off the team for not doing what she agreed to do. If you have a real case, you won't be thrown out of two courts unless you have a REALLY shitty lawyer.
The court found the guy innocent of rape
ugh no they didn't i spent like fucking 20 posts explaining this he was given a plea bargain which reduced his sentence from felony to misdemeanor, but that meant that he admitted that he rapped someone
ugh no they didn't i spent like fucking 20 posts explaining this he was given a plea bargain which reduced his sentence from felony to misdemeanor, but that meant that he admitted that he rapped someone
That still doesn't mean that he actually did rape her, if they had evidence that proved that she was gangraped (I believe she claimed it was multiple people) why the fuck would they offer a plea bargain to begin with?

And honest to God in some places girls just get ignored and not treated like a person. Though I do really wish the guys that raped her dropped dead... or at the very least have something horrible happen to them.
Sorry for getting this off topic.
Okay. Listen. The girl brought up a suit against the guy because she was raped. (He and his buddies had even left their clothes at the scene of the fucking crime.) He plead guilty to a lesser crime, and the girl and her family was satisfied with it, as it was some punishment, and I can imagine that a rape victim wouldn't like talking about her rape over and over and over again in front of strangers who will criticize every fucking aspect of it, trying to blame her in any way. ("Drunk? Oh, well rape is acceptable then. You wore a short skirt? Oh, you had it coming." That kind of attitude.) The girl went back to school, and the school told her basically to act invisible. The girl didn't feel like she had to be ashamed of being a victim, and didn't feel that she had to quit doing what she liked to do, aka cheerleading, just because she was raped. She just didn't cheer for that one guy. Her refusing to cheer for that one guy wasn't "substantial interference". It was one girl not participating in a minimal amount of the cheers. Not yelling "FUCK YOU RAKHEEM", but just staying silent. Oh no, one girl is staying silent, EVERYBODY'S GONNA HATE THE SCHOOL NOW. Yes, being on the cheer team is voluntary. But she shouldn't have to be ashamed of getting raped. She shouldn't have to stop doing what she likes to do. She compromised and decided to just stay quiet during a minimal amount of the cheers. Barely disruptive at all. Hell, most people probably wouldn't even fucking notice. Plus, even though it's voluntary, it's the fucking high school cheer squad. It's not a professional team, she's not getting paid, it's not the same as being a doctor. ... Rape kits can be intrusive. Oh, although she DID get a rape kit. Also, there were witnesses. They did question them. She was found half naked under a pool table crying, after several other people at the party busted the door down because they heard her screaming "No" and "Stop" and such. One of the windows was broken, and Bolton left his clothes behind. He came back later and threatened them in order to get them back. But no, I'm sure she just made the whole thing up for shits and giggles. Totally. ... And now back to our regularly scheduled broadcast.
he admitted that he rapped someone
The media makes rapping look glamorous, but our kids need to remember it's still a crime.
That still doesn't mean that he actually did rape her
yes it does pleading guilty to a crime means you committed it, for all intents and for all we know he did commit rape
