I realize Facepunch is not the best place to go for this, but my friends don't take it seriously. Neither do the adults I try to talk to about it.
Women have long been discouraged from flying. There are a good number of stereotypes backing this discrimination that I will not go into, but only the most determined women are really taken seriously as pilots. It's annoying, because many of the men on my dad's side of the family are pilots so personally I've grown up around pilots, pilot humor, many kinds of aircraft, and the braveness it takes to fly a plane. But when I ask for tips, most of them laugh. I don't think they're really being assholes on purpose, but men in the aviation industry just aren't used to women sitting in the cockpit. So I haven't gotten any help from them.
Ever since I was 3, I've been fascinated by the sky. More specifically, the machines that dominate it. Aircraft, be it planes or helicopters, are a major interest for me and I've always dreamed of actually flying one. But I fear there may be issues with instructors and even if I get through flight school I may never find a job as a pilot. On top of that, my prowess in the sims (not The Sims, but rather the flight simulators used train pilots) may just be dumb luck on my part. But honestly I've never been very patient unless there's an aircraft involved, which is odd because flying requires a hell of a lot of patience.
I'm fifteen, ambitious, and I really feel drawn to aviation. Is this something I should pursue? Many of you will say no, make sexist remarks, and be assholes in general, but for those of you who can conduct yourselves maturely: Is this a good idea? I'm kind of discouraged by the discrimination female pilots are put through but I think in the end it might be worth it for a chance to earn my wings. Help me decide what to do. I know this is kind of a broken and disorganized wall of text but I'm distracted at the time of writing this and probably won't find time to do it later, either, and I wanted to get this out of my head.
My mother is a pilot.
Go for it.
I've always wanted to get my pilot's license.
Fuck yes go for it.

Wait you're a woman nevermind

:rolleye:
Expected this. Now that that's been said, can we be serious?
get pilot licence then fly 2 my house for sex with me :)
Pow. Expected that, too.
get pilot licence then fly 2 my house for sex with me :)
Yeah sure, try and go for it if you want it. I think in today's society, whether you are a girl or boy doesn't matter if you want to do a job like this, if you have ambitions, then go for it.
Also I know girls who are doing flying lessons and shit, and I never even thought two ways about it till I read this thread :v:. Does being a girl make flying less appropriate?
It doesn't matter who/what you are, just go for it.
What's up with the disagree?
Have sex with my plane on the way to my house plz
Sure. As long as it has Auto-pilot turned on.
Shit keeps on going. :v:
Can we really deal with more women drivers?
On a serious note, if you're really driven to do it - go for it.

It's discouraged. If you travel often by air, you'll notice that most, if not all, of the pilots have been male.
Flight instructors will very often make fun of girls going for lessons and that's... well, it hurts.
Go for it just to prove them wrong. And if it's what you want to do with your life, then do it.
If you think you can handle all the apparent hostility you'll encounter then by all means go for it.
If you like it I see no reason not to do it just because you don't have a wang.

It isn't like that in England, damn Americans :argh:. No seriously, I hate to say it, but this really is one of those things where it's only an American kind of thing to do.
Since when did they have flying kitchens?
But seriously, yeah go for it that sounds fun. Pilots can make a lot of money if you want to do it professionally.
Yeah sure why not?
It's something cool and you can brag about it. It will get you chicks.

I mean boys

There is sexism only in AMERICA!
[editline]11:04PM[/editline]
What kind of pilot do you want to be anyway?
Only if there is a kitchen on the plane.
No but seriously, go for it. Don't let people get in the way of what you want to do.
There is sexism only in AMERICA!
Actually, I'm not only in America but in Texas, too. If I try, it won't be easy.
I thought women could only fly helicopters
isn't that in the geneva conventions or something
There is sexism only in AMERICA!
Well in other more developed countries, I doubt you get people going to the extent some Americans do.
Which building are you aiming for?
get back in the kitchen
Again, what kind of pilot? "A pilot" isn't a very good job description.
Actually, I'm not only in America but in Texas, too. If I try, it won't be easy.
Your current status is the same as mine, I guess you could say. Yeah, racism/sexism exists in the world, but I live in Georgia. I've lived in Alabama at some point, and the racism was nowhere near as bad there as it is here. I'm Asian (inb4smallpenis), so I'm always called a terrorist, Chinese, or something else by fucktards, but I learned to not give a shit. If you can learn not to give a shit about what they say, or to just ignore it, you're fine and can do whatever.
As long as that whatever isn't being a douchebag, that is.
Only if there is a kitchen on the plane.
No but seriously, go for it. Don't let people get in the way of what you want to do.

Again, what kind of pilot? "A pilot" isn't a very good job description.
Depends on if I get my license and what kind of what kind of pilot you mean. What field or what will I fly?
I'd like to become a commercial pilot; they have a nice juicy paycheck. On the other hand it's very difficult for women to become commercial pilots.
I'd go into the military for aviation but they'd be all "pfft whatever"

I thought women weren't allowed to fly in the military.
I thought women weren't allowed to fly in the military.
Hence "pfft whatever"
