Sylvia Kneller of Farnham, Surrey, first started responding to the fraudsters when she was 20 years old and says she became "a believer", convinced she would one day win a fortune. But now the pensioner, whose first husband left her over her refusal to stop responding to the letters, has spoken of the impact this has had on her life in a bid to warn others who have become addicted to the scams. She told the Sun: "I have been doing it since I was 20 and I am now 76 and the amount of money, £200,000, is what I have spent out thinking that I was going to win, to get money back, but I never got a penny. I can honestly say I have never had one penny from them." She added: "I thought I shan't send any more money since the lady came out from the council's trading standards and I am grateful for that. I do not send money out now because I can't afford it. If I had kept my money in my purse I would have been rich."
source: http://www.theguardian.com/money/2014/jan/13/scam-mail-addict-loses-200000-sylvia-kneller
What an idiot.
jesus fucking christ how much of a colossal bloody moron can someone possibly be
This sounds like a goddamn comedy sketch, not something you find in real life!

Proof that chances are, there is always going to be someone dumber than you are out there
I actually kind of pity her.
This woman is so dumb, I'm at loss of words.

I forgot how it's perfectly acceptable to take advantage of folks.
yes. the abuse is dished out on her because she was so incredibly stupid that she believed in the scam mail to begin with.
Coincidentally, her addiction to scam mail started just after her full frontal lobotomy.
Wait.. she finally comes to her senses (with some help) and the abuse is dished out on her and not the taint scum that were running the scams?
she lost £200,000 and a husband over the course of around fifty years over her idiocy, and apparently it took someone actually sitting her down and telling her to her face that she was being an idiot for her to stop. fuck yeah I'm gonna post comments on a gaming forum about how I think she's a moron
A 76-year-old woman has told how she paid out more than £200,000 after she became 'addicted' to scam mail.
Why am I not surprised.
Holy shit if you wanna waste money taking chances to win money play the fucking lottery. I'm sure the chances are bigger there.
Why am I not surprised.
She'd been doing it since she was 20. So being senile has nothing to do with this.
Why am I not surprised.
She was 20 when she started. She pretty much ruined her whole life.
Sounds like a mental problem to me
Sounds like a mental problem to me
If being gullible is a mental problem. She realized she was wrong so I'm really just gonna go with gullible.
Hindsight is 20/20.. Some dude told me that if I just believed that I would win the lottery, I would. Then I explained the odds to him and he just walked away
still higher odds than responding to spam mail
Sylvia Kneller of Farnham, Surrey, first started responding to the fraudsters when she was 20 years old and says she became "a believer", convinced she would one day win a fortune.
How does this logic even remotely make sense?
Hindsight is 20/20.. Some dude told me that if I just believed that I would win the lottery, I would. Then I explained the odds to him and he just walked away
Sounds like a guy believing in the universal law of attraction then.
This woman is so dumb, I'm at loss of words.
How many people have gone broke or have had to go to meetings for gambling problems? I imagine it's the same mentality. [editline]13th January 2014[/editline]
How does this logic even remotely make sense?
Not to start anything up here, but I've heard of people believing in crazier things en mass.
If being gullible is a mental problem. She realized she was wrong so I'm really just gonna go with gullible.
Well, it's certainly a possibility. Like this, for example
