• Twitter Testing Major Profile Redesign That Looks a Lot Like Facebook
Mashable assistant features editor Matt Petronzio spotted on Tuesday a huge update to his Twitter profile page, with the main picture and bio scaled to the left and significantly more real estate dedicated to the header photo. The revamped tweet stream is also a departure from its signature look. There is a greater focus on photos and content cards. It moves away from a strictly vertical timeline too.
http://mashable.com/2014/02/11/twitter-redesign-facebook-google/ facebook is becoming twitter and twitter is becoming facebook and everything is backwards god help us all
Looks really cluttered, I think twitter's main appeal is that it's so simple and linear, not all over the place
i can't wait for my simple vertical feed to become a stupid clusterfuck
facebook is becoming twitter and twitter is becoming facebook and everything is backwards god help us all
imagine the grey cable as facebook and the white cable as twitter it's basically social media sites in a nutshell
i'm usually pretty open to change. like, when everyone cried about facebook's changes and the cover photo system, i argued that it was a really good redesign that made the pages way more visually interesting and allowed you to customise your profile better but i really don't see the point in this. it feels totally against the entire selling point and brand image of twitter
I like it.
"man, what if we removed the character limit? then people could post whatever they wanted!" - actual words leaked from twitter HQ; big changes coming
considering the uproar over changing twitter to have a white color scheme i'm pretty sure this would cause people to burn down the twitter hq
"man, what if we removed the character limit? then people could post whatever they wanted!" - actual words leaked from twitter HQ; big changes coming
I don't want this to happen, but if they did do this I think they could actually kill Facebook. I mean Facebook is a clusterfuck right now with all the adverts, spam, and controversy about privacy settings etc. I'd be willing to bet that a large number of people who have a Facebook account also have a Twitter too.
Then Twitter would just be Tumblr.
But with more users, celebrities, and cis scum.
When is this going to happen?
I think it'd be better if they changed the character count to a word count. It makes no sense that chinese and japanese people can write so much more and languages with really long words can't write shit
I'd be willing to bet that a majority of people who have a Facebook account also have a Twitter too.
Twitter has 241 million monthly active users, Facebook has 1.23 billion I guess this doesn't technically disprove you tho
Looks like absolute shit. The reason Twitter is so effective is because it's to the point and organised in time series. That is just, ugh.
I can't speak about chinese; but Japanese doesn't use spaces, so exactly the same would happen.
Well a character count for japanese/chinese and those kind of languages
i actually really like the character count on twitter, it allows for more conversation to happen as it is difficult to have just one person writing paragraph after paragraph and another writing small sentences. it also gets rid of a bunch of bloat since you need to get to the point faster [editline]12th February 2014[/editline] also the small character count is perfect for me to throw out some sick jokes and get mad favs
It's horrible.
A low character count is the exact reason why Twitter is shit for trying to have a conversation...
the character limit was based on text messaging so you could text in your message, along with the original texting-limit's reasoning, which was arbitrarily set because some famous dude said if something takes more than x words(/characters?) to convey it's not worth saying [editline]e[/editline]
Alone in a room in his home in Bonn, Germany, Friedhelm Hillebrand sat at his typewriter, tapping out random sentences and questions on a sheet of paper. As he went along, Hillebrand counted the number of letters, numbers, punctuation marks and spaces on the page. Each blurb ran on for a line or two and nearly always clocked in under 160 characters. That became Hillebrand's magic number -- and set the standard for one of today's most popular forms of digital communication: text messaging. "This is perfectly sufficient," he recalled thinking during that epiphany of 1985, when he was 45 years old. "Perfectly sufficient."
continued from the same article
To avoid the need for splitting cellular text messages into multiple parts, the creators of Twitter capped the length of a tweet at 140 characters, keeping the extra 20 for the user's unique address.
I like the aesthetic but the actual layout of tweets and shit is just silly to me. It should be linear, not a jumble.
I like the aesthetic but the actual layout of tweets and shit is just silly to me. It makes more sense if you're trying to mosh through someone's archive for an old post, but as a way to read the latest posts, you're not sure where to go half the time.
It looks more like tumblr than facebook.
I mostly check twitter via mobile so hopefully this is just for the website client

i kinda like the proposed new layout i dont use twitter though so i can't make an informed decision
Please no, it looks terrible. I actually liked twitter because the UI updates they did werent complete DISASTERS unlike facebook/youtube, but I guess they are going to go down the road of looking like cluttered shit now.
