the guy was hacking and killed many players, the developers got a shit load of reports
so they logged in his account and did this

I think I need a bit more context here, but still praise be unto mod-gods.
Whats with the misleading title?
Some more information I guess : http://kotaku.com/hackers-mmo-character-publicly-stripped-killed-banne-1702670398
Made me think someone actually committed suicide IRL, even though I already knew this story.
Over the past three weeks many players of the popular multi-player game Guild Wars 2 have been complaining about the activities of a character called DarkSide. About four million copies of the game have been sold.
Via a series of exploits the character was able to teleport, deal massive damage, survive co-ordinated attacks by other players and dominate player-versus-player combat.
To spur Guild Wars' creator ArenaNet to react, players gathered videos of DarkSide's antics and posted them on YouTube.
A developer then logged into his account and recorded this video
I think it's justified, but very childish and unprofessional. But at least it's giving the game some good press and shows they give a shit about hackers.
edit: not the banning of hackers, that's totally justified. just going this far is downright silly.
so darkside is basically the real life equivalent of the "no life" dude from south park?

That's almost like South Park episode.
Sorry for not providing source, guys. (And the title, its too late to do anything though)
This was posted in a local news website, I honestly didn't know its this big.
Fine, I was wrong.
What surprised me is that they just logged into his account. Do they know his login in formation, or simply don't need it and can override it.
That's what really bothers me. And yes, I think this was pretty childish too.
Most likely the latter, and if you think it's childish you need to take a step back and realize what you're talking about.
I'd rather creative punishments than rug-sweeping any day of the week.
Talk about having the hammer dropped on you. Going this far was kind of a bit much, but they might have had the idea of making a serious example.

I don't understand how it's "a bit much"?
He broke the ToS, his account is forfeit anyway. Let the mod have some fun at the expense of a dickhead that makes his job harder.
Alright, I was wrong.

You don't have to be that boring.
What game is this?
What game is this?
Guild Wars 2
from the looks of it the character/account was disposable, he knew it'd get permabanned for hacking eventually. Probably got it during one of the cheapo $10 sales over the past few months. Not sure why they made a point of one guy like this, there's always wvw/pvp cheaters buzzing around and they just get a swift permaban and no mention. Maybe the dude was such a braggart about avoiding getting banned that he earned it
I know in GW1 ANet liked to make a public show of cheater bans though

Little known fact: Part of deleting a character in Guild Wars 2 requires you to commit graphic suicide ingame. Educate yourself. Gain knowledge, friend.

Sorry didn't seen any dancing emotes or pictures of his mom being chatted pre-jump.
...
Actually that would have been even more hilarious.

It's like you deliberately go into threads and pick the opposite response than anyone who actually had to deal with a situation irl would do just for responses.

I doubt it was "they" anyway. I'd say the mod seen the reports and had an idea, or had the idea floating around his head and was waiting for someone with a forfeited account.

Edit: I don't try to post the different opinion for responses. I was honestly just hoping for a discussion on it, I didn't intent to piss off everyone in here. Sorry.
I'm surprised how much people really didn't like my response though.
In that game my guild was called the "circle jerkers" and a mod changed us to the "Cirque Jokers".
It was a sad day.
Quick question,
How did they log in if the passwords are hashed?
Quick question,

They control the login mechanism, and thus could have modified it to allow a developer access without using a password. Alternately they could have just changed his password hash to something else, and logged in that way, like how the password recovery feature works.
that was hilarious, good riddance. This is what good ol justice feels like :v:
