Western Australian commitee wants R18+ games banned.
The Western Australian Joint Standing Committee on the Commissioner for Children and Young People recommends in its Sexualisation of Children report that the Classification Enforcement Act should "prohibit the sale, supply, demonstration, possession or advertisement" of R18+ video games in the state.
Under Australia's current classification system, games sold at retail need to be classified by the Australian Classification Board. The country's Federal Parliament passed legislation to create an R18+ category for video game classification last February. The new classification system, which included the new R18+ rating, came into effect across most Australian states and territories Jan 1, 2013.
Previously, the highest rating for video games was MA15+, where any game that was found by country's Classification Board to be too mature for the MA15+ category was Refused Classification banned for distribution. The R18+ category allows for mature themes such as relatively high levels of language, sex, violence and nudity.
Wow, no, fuck off, seriously. No reason for the games to be banned here, just get the people to actually check if you are over 18 when you buy. If the parent buys it without checking, it's their own fucking fault. On the upside digital sales wouldn't really be effected (I hope) but still, it's a stupid idea.

they should be shot
What's with Australia and wanting to ban everything that is even remotely dangerous?
Won't anybody think of the children (on Xbox Live)??
You poor Australians really get fucked over when gaming is involved don't you?

But, but, think of the children! < Mentality of all the mum's that complain and the old people in the government.
It is my belief that Australia should ban 18+ video games because these video games pose hazards towards the youth.
I was expecting this shit from Queensland not really the WA
Do we ban R18+ Movies and questionable TV shows that have a MA15+ rating as well?
You've got to be fucking kidding me. We only just established the R18 rating and now they want to ban it? Plus games already get banned right now when they should just be R18, such bullshit.
Ban being an adult
all adults are to be treated like children and not allowed to make decisions for themselves. They must have everything they do government approved by old people (who will be treated like adults if over 50) and they must have a licence to do anything.
anyone under 50 will, by law, be required to eat whole wheat cereal and wear government approved clothing every morning. Hair cuts required once a week and bed time by 8, no later.
fackin shitcunts

Despite this, they still wont ban spiders and all the creepy crawleys on their jungles.

Also games being rated MA15+ when everywhere else they are R18+ so parents who were so religiously batshit insane on making sure there was no R18+ games never realised that the lack of it makes violent video games even more accessible to young children

A mentality of 'you can fix anything by banning it'.
It explains a lot really.

Well WA is behind the rest of the country, so not really a surprise.
But no, for some dumb reason we only ban video games because "They are children's toys"

The sooner that mindset dies, the system will get more relaxed

I would imagine it's going to be a very long time. With some exceptions, most people I know over 35 still think video games are kids toys.
Western Australia should just break off from Australia and become it's own shitty province or something, I grew up in Western Australia and it is so goddamn backwards compared to the rest of Australia.
Western Aus is so far away too from main and best Australia.

That "if the only tool you have is a hammer all the problems look like nails" is such an awful mentality.

We get fucked over when anything's involved.

they probably feel like they already have enough dangerous shit
"Sexualisation of Children"
See, our R18+ rating only covers violence, sexual content is just as restricted as it's always been, so I'm not sure why they're talking about games in relation to this.

are you kidding me
WA and SA are doubly as backwards as QLD incredibly.
Are they running out of things to ban yet in Australia or what?
:v:

Did you know? that Western Australia wanted to succeed from the Commonwealth in 1933 but was ignored by the British and the Commonwealth

Dominion of Westralia will live on!
This state would be fucked if it became it's own country. Probably stuck even further in the past than the rest of the country. Everyone and their "WA is superiour" and the "We don't want change, it's good as it is!" mentality.
Hell, it's bad enough that it was only legal to open shops on a Sunday two or three years ago. Which most places don't do anyways yet. Not to mention that supermarkets only started opening after 5pm 3-4 years ago as well.
Oh no where will I get my games?! It's not like I can buy these games on some international network or anything
We've only recently gotten the R18+ rating and now some committee in the state I live in wants it banned. The whole point of the new rating is to inform consumers of the nature of the product they are buying. It's not the system's fault if they lack the education to read a label (It is WA so I'm not surprised some people have trouble reading labels). Parents should set boundaries according to what they feel is necessary and what the child is capable of rather than going for the typical 'knee-jerk' reaction.

Wouldn't be our issue if they split from us, not a big loss anyway.
Well sort of a big loss, WA makes up for a fair portion of our economy so the government would be resilient as hell to let them succeed without a fight

that's not the point
