I wanted to make this thread as a story-time of sorts, but as a tribute to my new found love for seatbelts as well. Last Friday, My 23rd, I was involved in a rollover crash. We cartwheeled about 4 times after catching a turn a little too wide going 85-90 mph. My mother was driving, I was in the passenger front seat, and my friend was in the rear driver seat. When you roll a car, shit gets unreal. You go unconscious the first time you hit the ground, and you wake up between every tumble. At least I did. I remember wondering which of the tumbles was going to kill me. It's like a series of grenades going off in your face, and your vision pulsing in and out of blackness. The moment the car landed, I got out instantly, since my body went into survival mode and I pulled myself out of the window. We landed upside down, so I had to undo my seatbelt and pull myself out of the window. Right when I stood up, I heard my friends voice. He was unscathed, albeit a bit bruised and cut up from the tumbling. We were okay, but my mother wasn't responding. Her side of the car was completely crumbled in from the top, so I feared the worst. About 10-15 people had already stopped to help by that point. When I noticed everything was real, my arm started to tingle. What I saw next is definitely embedded in my mind. NSFW (click at your own risk): http://puu.sh/91h0G It originally looked much worse than that picture, that was after they cleaned the wound. I'd seen SHIT tons of dirt, clotted substance, and what looked like bone sticking out of the wound. Someone helped me elevate my arm while I watched them rescue my mom from the car. My mothers hand was trapped under the car as they pulled her out. She started making some noises and that's how we knew she was at least alive. They had to lift the car off her hand to get it out, and she mangled two of her fingers, but to everyones' surprise, she didn't break anything. As they got her out, she crawled to me in shock, screaming when she saw my wound. We tried to calm her down and keep her at rest, but she was SCREAMING. She made the mistake of calling my brother while she was in this state. Everyone at the site called him to update him on everything, but no one would tell him my condition. All he knew was that I was being life flighted out of California into UMC in Vegas. Everyone in the family jumped into their cars and headed out ASAP to get to where they were. My mother and friend were transported to a little hospital in Needles, California, while I was heli'd to Nevada. My mother suffered a brain bleed in her head in multiple spots, and broke her neck. They had to fuse C-5 and C-6 since she herniated a disc between them. She's walking now and is on the road to recovery. I suffered a fractured elbow, but turns out my arm is completely unbroken. I severed through the skin and muscle tissue inside of my arm, so they had to stitch my muscle tissue together and staple my arm back to a recognizable state. Everyone is okay right now, just recovering. Sims 3 is going to be my recovery game, since its the only game I can play with a gimp hand. I'm so thankful to be walking and functioning right now. Every valuable survived the crash. My laptop, my friends laptop, my ipod, phone, wallet, my mothers phone and her shit. I mean, we were the luckiest people at the time. I owe everything to my seatbelt. It saved me from being ejected from the car, and saved all the lives inside the car at the time. Please Facepunch, drive careful and wear your goddamn seatbelts. My current arm pic (NSFW once again): http://puu.sh/98tzn The aftermath of our vehicle:
And this is why I wear my seatbelt. I've been lucky, so far the worst accident was my mom spun a bit in the snow and gently backed into a ditch. Either that, or when we (Parents and me) hydroplaned into the back of another car after a transport trailer tapped the side of our van. I wish everyone involved a speedy recovery.
@gooooooooooogle Go fuck yourself. (User was banned for this post ("flaming again" - Orkel))
Damn, that's some tough shit. Hope ya guys recover fast and well. Also, just curious, how did the crash happen in the first place?
Glad you're OK op! Last August, I was in a 70mph rollover on dirt terrain, I think the paramedics said I rolled 3-4 times but thankfully the last roll was in the air, otherwise my arm would've been severed (it was hanging out of the window after my head shattered it) Car accidents are so fucking surreal, everything slows down exactly as you expect. All I remember after rolling upright was smelling a disgusting mixture of fuel, oil, and sagebrush. To this day, sagebrush makes me sick to my stomach every time I smell it.
Damn, that's some tough shit. Hope ya guys recover fast and well. We over-corrected like once or twice before we caught the front passenger tire and started tipping. After that is kind of a blur. The smell was what woke me up, and shit was in slow mo. The realization of reality is also quite a hard hitting one. Shock does some crazy stuff.
Glad you're okay. That's a hella wound you got out of it. I think most fatalities in car wrecks are the ones involving ejection, so yeah, seatbelts are good. Who doesn't like a snug ride, anyway? Also its important to not move/turn your head around after a wreck. One little pinch in the cervical area and you could be paralyzed. If you need to clear the area, go for it, just be careful. should mention that mazda looked like a prius at first, hoho. it got messed up
Glad to hear that you guys got out alive, honestly I hate hearing about fatal car accidents because I lost a good friend in 4th grade when the SUV he was in rolled over and he got ejected out the sun roof and died from decapitation. I always told him to wear a seat belt because he never did and his parents were so careless about it. I was raised to always wear my seat belt and I have been lucky not to be involved in any serious rollover accidents, but the day it does happen even if I die you will be damn sure that I died wearing a seat belt.
This seems like a fitting thread, is it true that if all someones muscles are relaxed that your less likely to get hurt in an accident?
Glad you're ok man. Car accidents are no joke.
Oh shit. I ran a red first time on Friday, fucking spooky that on the other side of the world this was happening at the same time. After reading this I'm a little glad that my crap driving only took $330, instead of my bones. Remember guys- poor people can't afford to drive badly! You all are amazingly lucky that you got out with very, and I mean very, minimal wounds. Well, not really in your case, but it could've had to have been amputated. Instead, you got a bitchin' scar. Always wear your seatbelts, guys. My mom always told me to, and I always pressure others to do so. Wonderful to see you are making a full recovery! How is your mum and friend doing at this point? also, in case people don't know, roads out in the desert can get up to 85mph to higher. with minimums.
We cartwheeled about 4 times
When I read this I imagined the car going end over end sideways rather than just rolling Anyway congrats on being alive!
I hate cars. Well I love them but I hate them. I more afraid of other drivers but me and my lady got in a crash, she was driving and was bing stupid made a hard left and we started skidding nearly went into a lake. Luckily I for some reason became very calm and was able to grab the wheel and smashed into a fence at a much slower speed and she only fractured her wrist. Cars are fucking lethal.
I haven't been through anything traumatic when it comes to driving, but I'm piss scared of driving a car just because of this maybe happening :v: put me in front of a wheel, and you got a nervous guy who'll probably die of a heart attack when driving out of the sheer stress

She's getting lots of rest and can still walk, which is great. My friend was unharmed, so he's back to normal now, albeit scared to drive.
When I read this I imagined the car going end over end sideways rather than just rolling Anyway congrats on being alive!
Because that is actually what happened. We went side over side. Had we rolled, I probably would either be paralyzed or dead. Her car was a tin can, so we're lucky it was side over side and not barrel rolled.
I love to drive, but i know my truck will kill me if i get in a wreck. no crumple zones, no airbags, steel bumpers. It's a fucking tank but... it'll be its downfall if i get into a wreck. Thankfully i've never wrecked in the ~5 years i've been driving. the worst thing ive done was getting my bumper caught on some bricks and got the fuck bent out of it, while backing up. So, that's why i play with r/c cars. all the fun and excitement (imo) just in a smaller, much cheaper package. I can do crazy dumb things, roll my cars several times, and instead of being in the hospital i just... walk over and put it back on the wheels. What i'm saying here is, if you love to drive, get yourself a good quality r/c car.
Wish you a speedy recovery OP. :) I usually end up thinking that I am the party pooper when I say to people that they should wear seatbelts, but when I see things like this, I know it's justified.

Never feel like you're being boring or a wussy when you suggest a seatbelt, think of yourself as a hero.
Hey man glad you're okay! You are going to have a badass scar.
Scars look good on men's arms. At least something optimistic.
Damn dude, that story almost had me in tears. So glad you all survived.
car accidents are trippy as heck man only been in two, both with no injuries, but the first was a spin-out on ice that resulted in smashing into a guard rail most horrific yet thrilling ~10 seconds of my life
OP. I'm glad to hear about your recovery and the recovery of everyone else involved. When did you start gaining actual feeling in your arm, and how much did it hurt? To what extent can you move your arm? Also, you have pretty sweet taste in spooky skeleton avatars.
Jesus Christ, I've been involved in a car accident myself, but not nearly as bad as what you experienced, and I at the time was terrified so I can't imagine what you went though. Glad everyone is alive, and suffered no permanent disability! Good luck on your road to a full physical and emotional recovery!

Also, you have pretty sweet taste in spooky skeleton avatars.
I got the feeling back once they set me in the ambulance and had me wait for the helicopter. I can't really describe the pain, as there are no words for something like that. All I can say is, there are certain things in this world I'd go through again than have to live through that hour once more. My elbow is fractured, and wrapped quite tightly, so I can't really bend it too much. My thumb to this day is still completely numb, but my pain meds work like a charm. My hand is really swollen, so is my bicep. The muscle was torn clean through from the cut so most of my arm hurts and is sore if I push it too far. It also oozes chemicals if I stress it too much so I gotta rest it :/ Glad this arm is the only thing I walked away with though. I could be missing it, or any other limb, or could have died, so I'm extremely lucky.

I am not alone with this! :v:
This post makes me thankful for the cop that fined my dad for not wearing a seatbelt. He wears it all the time now. I'm relieved that he'll be a lot safer if something happens. I can't even imagine how that must have felt to have been through that.
Welp, thank god my parents learned me that you should always fasten your seat-belt no mather the distance.
Scars look good on men's arms.
I wish all scars were cool. [t]http://i.imgur.com/cZArD7d.jpg[/t] I wrestled with a guy, broke a window, and all I've got from it is this tiny dumb scar.
