Samsung builds some appealing phones but it’s no secret that their position as the best-selling Android manufacturer in the world is mostly thanks to their gargantuan advertising budget.
The South Korean electronics company is estimated to have spent $14 billion on advertising in 2013 – 14 times as much as Apple spent in the same year and a sum larger than Iceland’s total GDP.
Now in an announcement that might be crossing the line from ‘pervasive commercialism’ to ‘actual satire,' the phone manufacturer has said it will be renaming Terminal 5 in London’s Heathrow airport to the ‘Terminal Samsung Galaxy S5’ for two weeks.
“The initiative includes all signage throughout the Terminal Samsung Galaxy S5 terminal – at the entrance and drop-off locations, in the lounges, at security and at the gates,” said Samsung in a press release.
“In addition, all 172 digital panels in the main terminal, gate rooms and baggage reclaim areas will feature the rebrand ‘Terminal Samsung Galaxy S5’ and images of the Galaxy S5 smartphone.”
haha wow fair play
so an airport is now a phone? i don't get it.
will they redecorate it with plastic faux leather?
better hope no one drops it, or it'll shatter into 800 pieces
So this is what happens when you leave your phone in airplane mode for too long.
Meanwhile Apple is launching legal action claiming they have a patent on the luggage carousel.
i have never seen advertising as desperate as this.
White building with rectangular black accents
Apple has that patented yo
this is probably one of the worst advertising schemes i have ever seen
i legitimately thought this was an onion article
Is onion writing for reality now?
It'll take 9 months for any changes and then after that they'll discontinue the terminal

escalators are going to start lagging over time

Everyone still calls it the MEN arena though.
Everyone still calls it the MEN arena though.
On any ticket you get to events there it will say "phones 4 u" it stopped being officially the MEN a few years back.
Also for non mancunians MEN - Manchester evening news, sponsorships replacing sponsorships.
Soon there will be Terminal Spring Breakers 2.
I believe the current version is "KitKat." Will they be handing out KitKats too?
I won't be surprised if all of the check luggage computer have a sluggish, horribly designed UI that everyone hates, and when they complain, a patch is released making it even more hideous.
I'm looking at you and your creepy little fucking contact pictures, Samsung.

ugliest phones in the galaxy
ugliest phones in the galaxy
They perform well, lots of nice features, just terrible design, terrible UI, terrible build, terrible materials, terrible software...

Heard of AT&T park?
With Samsung's infamous boatload of bloatware? I don't think so.
I enjoyed the hell out of my GS3 when I had one, but the bloatware started getting to me after a few months. Then I switched to an Iphone 5s because I don't fucking know. I'll probably head to the HTC One (M8) next

if you can't remove bloatware you're probably too dumb to be a half-decent judge of smartphones anyway lol
if you can't remove bloatware you're probably too dumb to be a half-decent judge of smartphones anyway lol
how it performs out of the box is far more important than how well it performs for the small minority of users who rice up their phones

Did the same with Pride Park, they renamed it 'The iPro Stadium'. Fucking horrible name.
At this rate we'll be getting adverts on our fucking birth certificates.

The only thing I like about Samsung is the Note series, my tablet is only a wee bit bloated but it isn't THAT bad.
Quite silly, though, oh well.

Its not desperate, its genius. I applaud Samsung for doing something different.
Guys, if 2012 happens and there's a huge flood; we can be safe underwater for about 30 minutes in that terminal!
Thank you Samsung overlords!
