• Motivational workshops and self help books. How much can they help you?

I made this because I had been through one, not on my own, but the school paid for us to go. It was just to help and give guides to examinations. Most of the program consist of asking what you want to do in life, how hard it'll be if you didn't study, etc. There's also another one, where they made you cry by saying oh how unfilial you are to your parents. Most of my friends cried, said they will do better in their exams, and within a week, most of them didn't even give a shit about studying. The problem is, the methods that most Motivational workshops uses are pretty common. They always say things that you probably would know, and all they needed was a person with great skills in talking, and drawing graphs and shit. Honestly, I think its a bloody waste of money, and if you can actually be bought into going to these bullshits then congrats on wasting $2000.
I think motivation has to be found and not bought, And guilt tripping or fear mongering isn't really a great way to motivate.
They help you alright, help you lose all your money like the ignorant and gullible fuck that you are.
I don't think motivation is something that can be forced upon someone. Like Bloodfox said, it's something that has to be found.
if you're not motivated doing something you don't enjoy, chances are you'll never be motivated for it. shit like that is usually found in mundane office jobs and middle-upper class workplaces where nobody (or hardly anybody at least) truly enjoys the activities- and when there's no sense of satisfaction from your workplace other than a paycheck at the end of the year i wouldn't blame them at all.
most of the self-help industry is a scam

Rather than get some flashy book written by some pseudopsychologist, get self hypnosis books and see some(credible) hypnotherapists. By the way, the difference between a credible and non-credible hypnotherapist/hypnosis program: Credible: Help get rid of your addiction or social anxiety with this supplementary program. Incredible: Grow your penis/breasts/have an orgasm and cure your cancer with this single program! Anyways, hypnosis is by far the best form of self help since it has been scientifically demonstrated to have high success rates for getting rid of addiction and alleviating social anxiety.

Self-help, which is actually what stands behind hypnosis. Also, the workshop only pours information from a different perspective, it's not a magic pill. Either you decide you want a change by conscious, active-action or you blame others for your own failures, which is exactly what you are doing right now. Concluding those workshops are a scam, on the basis of one, is absurd. It's very easy to make a quick buck by promising to help sick or struggling people and then just spouting off a bunch of obvious bullshit. The biggest problem is that self-help is all lumped together as supplementary to professional psychotherapy, so scams can avoid criticism by saying "well, our program wasn't meant to be done without real therapy," and that also absolves them of a lot of responsibility. You're right, not all self-help is a scam, and you do get out of it what you put in. However, to say that a very large portion of the industry isn't a giant get rich quick scheme is ignoring the absolute rubbish that is out there.
en effective self help program is .... self help. Yes there are a lot of scams in the self help industry, but there are also a lot of fucking retards who drop money on multiple workshops and expect it to just magically flick a switch in their head or change their lives. You still need to work your SELF. It's like the thousands of mongs who go to pick up artists courses, they learn all these dumb overanalyzed, aspergers level routines and concepts, but then they go home and post about it on the PUA forum rather than doing the thing they need to do to get over their social anxiety problems: go socialize.
