Watch any YouTube video featuring Canadian or British forces in Afghanistan. Then look at the war being fought in the comments sections for those videos - and you'll see a bunch of stupid and offensive drivel written by teenagers and hicks about which of the three militaries - British, Canadian, or American - is better. I'll admit right now that I've been guilty of taking Canada's side with some zeal in the past, too. I stopped after I saw this. That's an American Kiowa Warrior flying the Canadian flag by way of thanks to a unit of the Canadian Forces that helped their boys out of a tight spot. Stuff like this tends to make you shut up and think. Lazy idiots who'd never risk their lives like these soldiers do instead spend their time bitching about which military is better, which country is better - they make it a matter of personal pride. Why? What have they ever done to contribute, to justify being proud? Meanwhile, there's no posturing and arguing going on amongst the soldiers deployed there. They're all working together, doing their best to see each other through the deployment safely. They chill together when they can and watch each other's backs when they're in the shit. There's a great deal of respect between soldiers of the various countries involved in the coalition - and the bitching is, for the most part, strictly playful. Makes me reflect on the absurdity of the way the people who aren't serving behave - that video shows a helicopter executing a flyby and lasts nineteen seconds. And it's one of the most touching videos I've seen on YouTube concerning the war.
I think NZ is the best. :3: On a serious note: I agree. I find it rather ironic that the soldiers couldn't give a rats ass, yet the people sitting at home who are making no direct contribution are the ones arguing. Perhaps the soldiers know something that we all don't.
I find it funny how we argue over such little things (sports, games, etc.). So what if the thing/person you're cheering for is better, you aren't any better of a person because of it.
Even Soviet and American troops in WWII were comrades against the Nazis.
Hell, even enemies in a war have got together and chilled out. Remember that WWI christmas? German and British troops just got together in no-man's land and played soccer on Christmas day. That doesn't happen anymore.

I never knew that happened. Now I do, and makes me happy, for some reason. Glad those people did not actually hate eachother. But kinda worried too. They had to do it.

There was this one battle on Christmas day in germany, everyone was tired on both sides. The germans and the americans gave up and hung out with eachother, they made ice-cream using milk, their helmets and snow. It was on the history channel, and the guy who was there said it was a sight to see.

I forget the quote but being a solider, "Is not to die for my country, but make the other bastard die for his."

If your job involves risking your life with other people, you will develop a comradeship with them. Living a life that involves the threat of death makes the people involved realise it's not about who's right, it's about who's left. And those soldiers obviously know that they're going to have to have each other's backs to do a good job.
Stories like this always make me feel good. I remember reading and seeing pictures of Allies and Germans in WWII giving each other medical aid, really touching stuff.

I know for a fact that grunts in vietnam patched up VC after they shot them. They were kept as POWs.

here's a picture for you guys
Think about being with a few other American soldiers in the middle of a war zone for months, scared out of your mind. When you happened to pass some Canadian soldiers, you wouldn't say "HEY WERE BETTER THAN YOU", but you'd just be incredibly happy to see some allies.
Bros for life.

Canada is not America's hat. America is not Canada's pants. We are all one equal body of kickassery and it should stay that way.

It's called Joyeux Noel (merry christmas in French) I highly recommend it. Amazing movie.
I agree with you on everything you've said.. and I'm currently in the USAF. And not only does this happen with countries but also the branches in America. I've been told "Why don't you join the Marines and do something for your country?". I fix F-15E models for the Air Force which DO deploy and DO help save lives. It's stupid. Everyone gets so butthurt on who's better that when it comes down to it.. if a marine, soldier, sailor or airmen whether they're from the british forces, french, canadian, or german or whoever I would help them. They don't even need to be in the forces. I'd help anyone. People need to get over themselves.. it's as simple as that. Earlier today I read "Why should we shed tears for American soldiers? It's not like they shed tears for the Iraqi civilians they kill", I also read "fuck yeah we need to have 1000 9/11 events to help pay for what they've done". This is so messed up.. I don't even know what to say about it. What I do know is, I do wish I could stop everything that's happened. We are not all heartless killers, and never will be. Also, it's not on Youtube but please click this.. http://www.wimp.com/remarkableexperience/ It's about a war veteran who played his trumpet even though there was a sniper watching the camp. This also shows that it's not all about killing. Sorry if I rambled.. this stuff all bothers me.

If they're fighting to protect innocent people and to make someones life out there better, they can be big, small, Canadian, British, American, Black, White, Hispanic, I don't give a fuck. I love em all the same.

Quite touching, it's a shame such a thing wouldn't happen these days in the Middle Eastern conflicts, what with different religions and all.
My uncle is in the Canadian army and returned from Afghanistan where he was the deputy commander of the Canadian Forces health services, where he worked they treated everyone, including insurgents. At x-mas he said to me "You lay hands on people. All of a sudden, you are no longer the foreigner; you are the human that has comforted me."
I respect my fellow brothers who fight for there country. Some of the finest troops I ever had the courtesy of meeting were Australians. They were a security force at Camp Liberty. We would always go over to there CHU's and grill, and they would always come over to our CHU's to play X-Box and Play Station. 4th of July and The Army Birthday on June 14th we invited them over for Steaks, Burgers, Hot Dogs, and Beer. And the Aussies invited us over for Australia Day. We held a good old fashion soccer game as well. Great bunch of guys.
