Yeah, keep at it. It's alright to have a limited appeal. Your drawing and humor will improve the more you use them. The joke in the latest comic wasn't immediately obvious though.

Character's have faces of their own. You don't need to include them in the text. And everything else in that panel was pretty stupid, you can't just expect something random to always be funny.

The entire speech bubble for the "RAWR!" when Peter was lunging could probably have been left out to equal effect, actually.

Proper jokes weaved into this kind of drawing style could create something awesome. Keep at it, as others said.
