US teenager Chancey Luna has been found guilty of murdering Australian baseball player Chris Lane and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Lane, originally from Melbourne, was a student at East Central University in the town of Ada and was shot in the back while he was jogging on a street in Duncan, Oklahoma, on August 16, 2013.
The jury only took a little over an hour to find 17-year-old Luna guilty of first-degree murder, after a four-day trial.
The jury also sentenced Luna to life in prison without parole.
Lane's father Peter said he felt no joy over the verdict, but was relieved that the trial was over.
"There's no sense of joy. Something is behind us, something has moved. The trial was fair," he said.
"He's gone for life. He's now 17 and will not see the free light of day in the free world ever."
Ah crap, meant to say just "Student" in the title and I misspelt random.
What an idiot.
It's incredible how someone can just throw their entire life away like that. Only 17, and all they'll know until the day they die is prison. I can't help but feel sad about that, even though I agree with the verdict.
Obviously the judge and jury know more than we do about the case, and it was a horrible crime but I can't help but feel that the punishment goes slightly too far. Maybe a life sentence with parole after twenty years instead of no parole at all. An innocent man has been lost from the world but we shouldn't be throwing away every last bit of hope for people who have the capacity to change and should undertake that initiative to change. But who knows, maybe they don't have the capacity to change.
Jesus. It's one thing to obtain your rights as a citizen and then lose them but to not even be 18 yet.. you never got to be a person
The one decent math teacher I had in highschool should have at least a little bit closure now, he was this guy's uncle.

Nah, fuck him, he murdered an innocent person and deserves to never be in society again.

I'd agree if it wasn't for the fact that the murder in question was entirely unmotivated, completely for the hell of it. It's one thing to murder a person you know due to some dumb motive, but if a person has shown they're willing to murder people for no discernible reason, just because they can, it's probably best we ensure they don't get another chance to commit another random murder.

There are only two main benefits to giving someone the chance for parole, in my opinion. One, prisoners who have something to lose are easier to control. Two, it costs money to imprison someone, parole saves money. Balanced against that is he's already killed someone in cold blood. If he gets out and kills another person, what do you say "Oops"?
In a perfect world we'd have the tech, or drugs, to 'fix' people like him so that they could never murder again. That's when I think parole for a guy like this is a good idea. Until then, permanently locking them up is the next best option. I don't think his chance to reform is worth risking seeing him kill again.
What kind of parent gives their son a girl's name?

uh oh
that was just pure unfathomable idiocy, nobody needed to loose a life, but now 4 people have because one decided to just kill someone, the shooter will never go free, the one other guy will not be out until the 2060's and the third maybe will be out in 20 years on probation, but i'm not holding my breath since 20 years is a long time to fuck something up in prison

Could always just kill him; shame that would probably cost more than life imprisonment due to the appeal process.

Unisex name.
I remember when this incident was posted back in 2013 and reading how his only 'justification' was that he did it to avenge trayvon martin and because he hates white people.
