Consider this a public service announcement for possibly gullible iPhone 6 owners: The microwave is for heating leftovers and popcorn, NOT FOR CHARGING YOUR PHONE.A phony ad circulating on the Internet has fooled some iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus owners into believing they can quickly charge their phones by putting them in a microwave oven. It has led to some broken-hearted iPhone owners with cooked devices.
Boston.com reports the fake ad is being attributed to "pranksters associated with the notorious message board site 4chan.org". The ad touts the "Apple Wave," a supposed feature on the new iPhone that allows users to recharge it in a microwave.
Authorities warn that microwaving the phone will not only ruin the device, it could cause a fire or explosion, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Mashable.com says this isn't the first time fake ads associated with the iPhone have circulated on the Internet. Last year, 4Chan.org tried to convince iPhone users that a new operating system made the phone waterproof.
I don't even know what to say.
I know what to say: late.
I know what to say: late.
I couldn't find any thread on it here. Mind pointing out?
People are fucking stupid
I know what to say: late.
The information and hilarity of this is late, but i haven't seen any sensational threads about it yet.
iPhone: Watt are you doing?!
This is so late, the article was posted yesterday come on!!!
cant believe people are this stupid though
ah don't worry, if you put it in the microwave and it exploded, you can fix it by putting it in rice and waiting a night
I know what to say: late.
Nope. The joke itself has been done before, but not with the iPhone 6.
doesn't this happen like every year? amazing how people still fall for it.
You have to be extremely retarded to fall for this
People are easily lead by advets that look like the real deal. Just like people who bricked their xboxes trying to unlock the backwards compatability or even people who act on phishing emails. Not really stupid just incredibly naive.

All it takes is an idea....

No, I'm going to go stupid over naïve. You've gotta be pretty damn stupid to think that if Apple had developed this technology that they'd let it operate on broad spectrum frequencies like you get in a microwave oven not at some INCREDIBLY specific wavelength only capable of being emitted at reasonable intensities by a device that they sell for an inflated price.
It's because they didn't bend the phones first. Hence, "Wave".
Apparently the waterproof hoax last year wasn't enough evidence you shouldn't trust random shit on the internet?
In others news, people are fucking dumb. More at 11
People tell lies on the internet :(
This isn't the first time and at this rate it won't be the last.
These dumbasses keep falling for it, so I don't know what to say. I'll just say what I said on facebook. No amount of software updates will make your phone waterproof, or charge in the fucking microwave. If we know from a young age not to put metal in the microwave, WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU PUT A PHONE IN THERE!? A $700 phone no less.
Seriously, even if you THINK it might work, wouldn't the value of the phone itself be reason not to?
"Don't trust everything you see on the Internet"
Yeah and to honest, I don't trust apple products.
Yet, I use my Ipad 2 for Facepunch, go figure.
We need more things like this to fuck with and weed out stupid people. This is the information age, you could literally look up the effects of microwaving a phone on your phone if you were that ignorant about it.
Take the warning labels off of everything.

Not trying to justify these idiotic mistakes here but there are plenty of people from a couple generations back that didn't grow up with all this new technology and now have the money to buy these items while having no clue how they work.
I'm pretty sure if my parents would ask me for help with their computer and I said "Just download more ram" they would totally buy it, so it's no surprise to me that people fall for this too.
People tell lies on the internet :(
People tell lies everywhere. It's just that the Internet believes the lies too often.
Apparently an Iphone 6 can bend, you heard that right. Actually bend if you put it in your pocket. At least. That's what I've heard and seen anyways. I might be uninformed a bit.

So I guess it's up to parents and teachers to teach young minds to think critically and not believe everything they hear/see at face value.
I knew at a very young age that putting metal in a microwave was trouble. How is this not common knowledge?

There is a news post in this section about that with a demonstration video.

Most phones bend given enough pressure. Especially ones as thin as the 6.

Its hard to remain sympathetic when it keeps happening and people keep buying into it. You'd think the first time someone loses a $400+ phone, they'd be more careful with what they find on the internet. Don't think I'm just bashing the phone owners though, the guys who put that fake ad out are fucking assholes.
But seriously.....you would think common sense dictates that putting a phone in the microwave is a bad idea. These people owe it to themselves to educate themselves on their device of choice. Plus, it would be handy if people would stop putting out bullshit ads.
don't forget the other next big thing
