Yea, the electiosn thing is mostly bogus because the Kim family runs unopposed and there's no separation of branches- Un appoints the Presidium, which is the de facto controller of the legislature. Kim Yong-Nam, Un's uncle (?), is the appointed president of the Presidium, Worker's Party, and Politburo- the legislative council of the Party, effectively meaning that he controls the Party that control the legislature that is controlled by his Presidium. Un is also the chairman of the National Defense Commission, meaning that he is the head of the military. He is also secretary of the Party. And as executive, he appoints the head ministers, who are in charge of the Legislature and also the Defense Commission.
Also, while there are three political parties in the DPRK, only one- the Worker's Party- is legally allowed to make law and hold the majority in the SPA. Voting for other parties is equivalent to a wasted vote. In executive elections, only the Party can vote. Kim Jong Un, being head of the Party on two levels, only appoints unchecked those who will appoint him as their nominee, therefore you can vote for Party candidates only, and only Kim Jong Un is the party candidate.
