I mean, the genre was already big, but Initial D was really what brought it into high gear (no pun intended).
Initial D soundtrack is so fucking good. It gave me a new reason to live when I discovered it. And I'm not even suicidal.
If you guys haven't watched Initial D yet, you really should. The soundtrack is only the beginning of the hype you feel when watching it.

I actually wanted the car before I ever knew about Initial D. Actually learned about the car from Drift Stage. I like the car for what it is. A fun, sporty economy car from the 1980s. RWD with a rev happy engine that isn't necessarially too fast, but still quick. Were there other cars I could've gone with? Sure, but nothing's really like the AE86.
Hell, I've only watched first stage of Initial D.

There's a track right after the opening of episode 4 of stage 4 i think which is amazing but could never find the title.
Probably the best track out of all of them and yet i cant find it anywhere.

We may never relive Japans sports car golden age again, but we can at least save and cherish the cars we have and keep the spirit alive. If it's an 86 and stock it should stay that way. My car was abused and molested by 8 previous owners, including the foolish highschooler who blew the engine because he couldn't finish installing his boost gauge. I did what I could to bring it back to life (and boy did I), but she still has a long way to go.
